Stevie H Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 they needed to win more than we did, we never really looked under threat. three points well won and well earned without the skipper. that'll do for me.
Earl Hafler Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 Aye, that'll do. I don't agree with some that a good result = good performance, although as Knox says we have played like that in our cup winning seasons. The good thing before Sunday is the result, Crouch scored, clean sheet.. AND IT'S NOT A ****ING SATURDAY NOON KICK OFF And Garcia has to start on Sunday.
Fagan Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 they needed to win more than we did, we never really looked under threat. three points well won and well earned without the skipper. that'll do for me. but, but, but....this is a proportional, rational, objective and simple statement. i don't understand....
Maldini Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 A few points: 1. Ray Wilkins is the only co-commentator I've listened to in a long time who hasn't made me want to kick the TV screen through. I wasn't expecting that. 2. Bordeaux are a shower of cheating c*nts 3. The ref gave way too many free-kicks and should've let the game flow more freely 4. We should let Gonzalez take set pieces, he has a cracking left foot 5. He's a bit too eager to impress, rushing things 6. Bellamy needs to become more of a threat in and around the box 7. That was Carra's best performance of the season so far
Stevie H Posted October 18, 2006 Author Posted October 18, 2006 And Garcia has to start on Sunday. not a f***ing chance of that. gonzalez - alonso - momo - gerrard thanks. A few points: 4. We should let Gonzalez take set pieces, he has a cracking left foot 7. That was Carra's best performance of the season so faragree with those two man.
Guest Sabre Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 Ray Wilkins must have been well pissed off with not watching Chelsea.
madaboutlfc Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 wilkins was good.. maybe something to do with the Italian influence..
Cobs Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 gonzalez - alonso - momo - gerrard thanks.would be the 4 i would go with i'd have Crouch & Bellamy starting too
Fagan Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 id actually like to see bellers tried on the left i remember him playing there for the bar codes a few times and being awesone
Guest Portly Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 I was also pleased by Ray Wilkins' contribution. Common sense, insight and impartiality. Quite a rarity on Sky Sports. I don't suppose he will last long.
sirstan Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 Words cannot describe the joy it was to not have to listen to that t*** Andy Gray for 90 mins this evening. Wilkins was excellent. Give him more of the big games

sirstan Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 8. We should let Bellamy take more corners Yes! They were verging on excellence at times. Quick balls whipped into the box. None of this short corner s**** that we used to do!
Hassony Posted October 18, 2006 Posted October 18, 2006 wilkins was fair and accurte, but he has got the most boring voice in the world (well after Joe Royle)
genghis Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 I'll just add my vote to the "Ray Wilkins shows how you can commentate and not be tw*t" club. Liked things like "I bet France are annoyed that Sissoko isn't playing for them, because he's turned into an amazing midfielder". And "Good clearance there from Mr Reliable, Jamie Carragher" (even if that last one hasn't been true this season, until tonight). Bellamy's corners were indeed great - if he's that good at fast, whippy crosses, we should deffo be thinking about him as a winger (!) given how hard he works, and it would mean we had more goal threats on the pitch, if he's there along with 2 strikers (yeah, I know, it's not gonna happen).
intense enigma Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 (edited) Don't know if anyone posted this but the Bordeaux coach gives us quite a bit of credit in his post match comments Bordeaux boss Ricardo Gomes conceded that his side's chances of qualifying now are slim. He said: 'We did things really well for long spells, but we just could not get through Liverpool's defence. 'Our task has become very, very difficult. A hard task, but it is not totally over because football can change. But at this stage we know how tough it will be to qualify. 'We played well, certainly better than against PSV, but the last 20 metres is tough, Liverpool took advantage of our failure to cause them problems and get in shots. They scored when it mattered. 'It is difficult to get at Liverpool, a difficult team to cause problems against and hard to destabilise their defence despite the amount of pressure we had and the crosses we got into their box.' We just could not get through Liverpool's defence Edited October 19, 2006 by intense enigma
Senrab_nhoj Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 Reiterate about Wilkins.. informed, concise, factual, accurate and with an evident passion for the game.... although his monotone voice tends to cover that up It was genuine pleasure to listen to the commentary for once
Benitez Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 wilkins was fair and accurte, but he has got the most boring voice in the world (well after Joe Royle) and after Jim Beglin, who really has got a tedious voice (to go with his tedious commentary). Think of Wilkins voice being more laid back than boring, and it helps

I think last night epitomised why so many people thought he'd be a success as a manager but also why he ultimately failed. He has the knowledge and love of the game but his laid back persona and dull drone would slowly sap the will to live from his players. Sky should provide him with a vocoder for his next game.
Des Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 it was wasn't it? bizarre that it's such an exception to the rule to say that. Watched the game in my local on one screen with the sound down, with commentary from the Chelsea-Barca game on another screen blaring away...
The Hitman Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 I noticed how good Wilkins was last night too.Possibly the best co-commentator I've ever heard. Not saying much,I know, but he actually talked like he knew the game.
DonRafa Posted October 19, 2006 Posted October 19, 2006 I noticed how good Wilkins was last night too.Possibly the best co-commentator I've ever heard. Not saying much,I know, but he actually talked like he knew the game.- For me, that title goes to Niall Quinn, but Butch comes a close second. IMO Andy Grey should not be allowed to do our games. I'm bloody sick & tired of his mealymouthed constant sniping - c***!
