Our winner came when Danny Murphy netted his fiftieth career League goal, converting from the spot after Florent Sinama-Pongolle was brought down in the area, shortly after he had been assaulted by Luis Boa Morte in the centre circle, who was dismissed. European Cup games We have played in the European Cup three times on this day over the years. 1977 - We lost 2-1 at Dynamo Dresden but still progressed to the Second Round 6-3 on aggregate, with Steve Heighway on target. 1982 - We beat Finnish champions HJK Helsinki 5-0 at Anfield to wipe out a single-goal first-leg defeat to reach the Third Round. Kenny Dalglish, Craig Johnston and Phil Neal all netted in the first half, with Alan Kennedy adding a brace after the break. 1983 - We won 1-0 at Athletic Bilbao at the same stage, thanks to an Ian Rush header, following a goalless first leg at Anfield. A Manchester treble 1895 - Jack Peters scored a hat-trick for Newton Heath, later to become Manchester United, as they beat us 5-2 at Bank Street, with John Clarkin and Dick Smith also scoring for the home side. Frank Becton and Jimmy Ross were on target for the reds as keeper John Whitehead made his third and final reds appearance. Disappointment against the Gunners 1988 – We were held to a 1-1 draw in a League Cup Third Round tie at Anfield. John Barnes netted, with the reds eventually progressing after a second replay, before being knocked out at West Ham United at the next hurdle. 2013 – We lost 2-0 in a League game at the Emirates Stadium, with Santi Cazorla and Aaron Ramsey on target either side of the break. Red arrivals 1944 – Bootle-born right-winger Jimmy Payne turned pro with the reds. He notched 43 times in 243 appearances for the reds, including the 1950 FA Cup Final, before moving across Stanley Park in April 1956, where he was dogged by injury before retiring to become a newsagent. 1894 - Northern Irish inside-left Davy Hannah signed from Sunderland. He was the cousin of Andrew Hannah, a Scottish right-back who left Anfield for Rob Roy soon afterwards. Davy struck twelve times in 33 reds games. 1879 – Inside-forward Fred Buck was born in Audley, Staffordshire. He arrived from West Bromwich Albion in May 1903, scoring once in thirteen senior outings before joining Plymouth Argyle in April 1904. 1885 – Left-back Tom Rogers was born in Prescot. He signed from Rossendale United in April 1907, playing forty times without scoring in five years with the reds. Wadsworth passes on 1975 - Outside-right Harold Wadsworth died. He signed as an amateur from Tranmere Rovers in January 1918, turning pro in May 1919. He struck three times in 55 reds games, often featuring alongside his brother, centre-half Walter. He moved on to Leicester City for £250 in June 1924. Red farewells 1907 – Harold Fitzpatrick played his fourth and last reds game in our 2-0 top-flight defeat at Bristol City. He moved on to Chesterfield Town the following year. Sam Gilligan netted one of his five goals past his future employers, with Jack Wedlock also on target. 1929 – Centre-half David Davidson bagged his second and final reds goal as we drew 3-3 at Portsmouth in a top-flight fixture. Gordon Hodgson and Jimmy Smith were also on target. Jimmy Easson bagged the first of his eight goals past the reds, with Jack Weddle nabbing the first of his five past us, and Fred Cook also on the scoresheet. 1924 – Future reds Gordon Hodgson and Arthur Riley both won their second and last caps for South Africa as they lost 2-1 to the Netherlands in Amsterdam. 1957 – Forward John Evans played his 107th and last reds game after Jimmy Melia failed a late fitness test. Half-back Johnny Wheeler bagged the only goal of our Second Division fixture at Lincoln City in just the second minute. 1991 – Swedish centre-half Glenn Hysén gave us a half-time lead as we lost 2-1 to Crystal Palace with his third and last reds goal, the Eagles’ only League win at Anfield to date. Mixed fortunes against the Foxes We have twice entertained Leicester City in the First Division on this day in history. 1963 – We lost 1-0. 1985 - Ian Rush grabbed the only goal of the game late on to hand us victory. Thumping Anfield wins 1912 - Jack Parkinson netted a brace as we beat Tottenham Hotspur 4-1. Donald McKinlay had opened the scoring in the first minute with the first of his 35 reds goals, with Arthur Goddard completing the scoring. Billy Minter’s consolation was one of his five strikes against the reds. 1940 - We beat Stockport County 5-0 in a Wartime League fixture with Bob Paisley, Arnold Grundy and Berry Nieuwenhuys on the scoresheet, to add to a George Hunt brace. On the move 1959 – Blues centre-forward Dave Hickson revealed that he would welcome a move across the park if the reds were to pursue their alleged interest. He signed four days later for £12,000 and went on to score 38 times in 67 reds games, having grabbed 95 goals in 225 League games in his two spells with the Blues before moving to Anfield. 1949 - Liverpool-born centre-forward Les Shannon was sold to Burnley. He signed professional terms in November 1944 but had to wait until April 1948 to make his reds bow. He bagged just one goal in eleven games, as well as six in fifteen wartime appearances. He is the father of recent Under-16’s coach Dave Shannon. 2015 – Ex-reds defender Richard Money was sacked as Manager of Cambridge United. He had been in charge since October 2012, leading them to the FA Trophy and back into the Football League. 2006 – Future reds keeper Andy Lonergan joined Swindon Town on loan from Preston North End, playing just once for the Robins. 1899 – Inside-left Bill White signed for Queens Park Rangers from West Calder Swifts, netting eight times in 39 games for the R’s. He went on to score within two minutes of his reds debut at home to Everton in September 1901. This was his only strike in six senior games, and he moved on to Dundee in July 1902. Happy birthdays 1994 – Ex-reserves midfielder Jordan Lussey was born in Ormskirk. He was released in June 2015, signing on with Bolton Wanderers the following month after a successful loan spell. 1982 - Former reserves keeper Charles Itandje was born in Bobigny. The Frenchman signed from Racing Club de Lens in August 2007 and played seven largely unconvincing games in his first season, being released from his contract in December 2010. George Camsell nabbed the last of his nine goals past us, with Ralph Birkett also on the scoresheet. 1901 – We won 3-2 at Manchester City’s old Hyde Road ground with Tommy Robertson, Charlie Satterthwaite and Jack Cox all scoring. Billy Gillespie bagged one of his five goals past us, with Fred Williams also on target. Jayden’s bow 2021 – Jayden Danns made his debut for England Under-16’s in their 1-0 friendly defeat of Italy in France. Jonjo again 2007 – Future red Jonjo Shelvey captained England Under-16’s in the Sky Sports Victory Shield, scoring as they beat Wales 2-0 in Telford. He actually struck in all three games as England claimed the trophy. 2021 – Future red Ben Doak featured for Scotland Under-17’s as they lost 3-0 to Italy in a European Championships qualifier in Northern Ireland. 2000 – Future red Alberto Aquilani played for Italy Under-16’s as they lost 1-0 to FR Yugoslavia. Free Jürgen 2022 - Jürgen Klopp was presented with the Freedom of the city of Liverpool, the city’s highest civic honour.

A legend departs 1978 - Ian Callaghan signed for Swansea City on a free transfer. He had helped us to five League titles, two FA Cups, one European Cup, two UEFA Cups, UEFA Super Cup and three FA Charity Shields, as well as winning the Football Writers’ Player of the Year award in 1973/74. He remains the player with the record number of reds appearances, with an amazing 857 outings, during which time he bagged 68 goals. New boss 1918 - George Patterson was appointed as the club’s Secretary, having been Tom Watson’s deputy for a decade. He returned to more administrative duties in December 1919 after just eighteen games in charge, although he then became Secretary/Manager in March 1928, remaining in charge in this second spell until August 1936. Into Europe 1964 - Bobby Graham struck on his reds debut in the first European game at Anfield, as we beat Iceland’s Knattspyrnufélag Reykjavíkur 6-1 in our European Cup preliminary round encounter, to progress 11-1 on aggregate. Ian St. John netted a brace with Gerry Byrne, Roger Hunt and Willie Stevenson scoring the other goals, while Alan A’Court was playing his 381st and final reds game. Shanks apparently told Ron Yeats to let the visiting side score once we had gone 7-0 up on aggregate! Gunnar Felixson was the visitors’ goalscorer. Yet another win 2019 – The reds won a club record fourteenth League game in a row when we beat Newcastle United 3-1 at Anfield. Jetro Willems put the visitors in front early on, but Sadio Mané’s brace gave us a half-time lead. Mohamed Salah completed the scoring after the break. Other goalscoring debuts 2002 - Milan Baroš netted his first two reds goals on his League debut as we won 3-2 at Bolton Wanderers. Anfield trebles 1895 - Inside-right Jimmy Ross scored a hat-trick as we thumped Newcastle United 5-1 in a Second Division encounter. Happy birthdays 1997 – Forward Dominic Solanke was born in Basingstoke. He signed from Chelsea in July for an undisclosed fee that was later agreed without going to a tribunal, netting just once in six starts and 21 substitute appearances before moving to Bournemouth for £19m in January 2019. 2003 – Forward Harvey Blair was born in Huddersfield. He signed as an Under-12 from Manchester United, penning his first professional contract in October 2020. 2004 - Midfielder Tommy Pilling was born in St. Helens. Right-half Maurice Parry made his 200th appearance for the reds. Lauri’s day 1991 – Former reserves forward Lauri Dalla Valle was born in Kontiolahti, Finland. He arrived from Joensuun Iloiset Peli-Pojat for a reported £600,000 in November 2007, signing professional terms with the reds in September 2008. He moved to Fulham in August 2010 after just one brief substitute appearance, as part of the deal that brought left-back Paul Konchesky to Anfield. Sinama on target 2001 - Florent Sinama-Pongolle scored in France Under-17’s 2-1 defeat by Nigeria in the World Championship Finals in the Dwight Yorke Stadium in Tobago, while Anthony Le Tallec also played. The French won their final two group games to progress, eventually going on to claim the title. A first for Rushie 1988 - Ian Rush won his first cap in his second spell as a reds player as Wales lost 1-0 in a World Cup qualifier in the Netherlands. Future reds strike partner Dean Saunders also played. John Aldridge, Peter Beardsley, Gary Gillespie, Ray Houghton, Jan Mølby, Steve Nicol, Ronnie Whelan and ex-red Kevin Sheedy all also represented their countries that day. Fabs at the Olympics 2000 - Future red Fábio Aurélio scored in Brazil’s 3-1 defeat of Slovakia at the Sydney Olympics. He scored five times in 22 appearances in his second spell with Pompey. 1997 - Bruce Grobbelaar signed for Oxford United, although he only remained there just over a week. 1989 - Future red Paul Ince joined Manchester United for £1m from West Ham United after twelve goals in 95 outings for the Irons. Welcome cobber 2003 - Harry Kewell signed from Leeds United for £5m on a five-year deal. It was also announced that he would be taking over the famous number seven shirt, with Vladimír Šmicer switching to eleven. Harry’s time at Anfield was disappointing as he suffered from a series of niggling injuries, bagging sixteen goals in 139 reds games before leaving as his contract expired. However, he did help us to claim the Champions League and FA Cup in his time as a red, although he limped out of both Finals. Farewell King Billy 2001 - The funeral of Billy Liddell was held. King Billy was a genuine reds legend, arriving at Anfield in July 1938 while still only sixteen. He left the club 23 years later, having struck 228 times in 534 games, and brightened the lean Second Division years for Kopites. His only club honour was the League title in 1947, although he also played in the FA Cup Final three years later. 1939 – Welsh international half-back George Latham died. He joined the reds as an amateur in December 1902, signing on professionally the following year. He played nineteen reds games without scoring before joining Southport Central in 1909. A great day for Ged 1992 - Gérard Houllier was appointed Manager of France. He was in charge for just fifteen months, winning seven of his twelve games in command, although the French narrowly missed out on qualifying for the World Cup in the USA. 2003 - He was presented with his Honorary OBE in London by Foreign Secretary Jack Straw, alongside his good friend Arsène Wenger. He spent all his time as a red on loan away from Anfield, first at Le Havre, then Bastia, and finally with Racing Club de Lens whom he joined permanently for £2m in June 2005. 2006 - He reached the pinnacle of his career, making a substitute appearance in the World Cup Final as France lost out to Italy on penalties in Berlin. On the same day, ex-red Xabi Alonso started work as head coach for Real Sociedad’s B-team. 2009 - Jermaine Pennant signed for Real Zaragoza after a five-month loan spell with Portsmouth. He had arrived at Anfield in July 2006 for £6.7m after Birmingham City were relegated, hitting the target just three times in 81 reds games, helping us to reach the UEFA Champions League Final in his first season. 1902 – Scottish inside-left Bill White left the reds to sign for Dundee. He had signed from West Calder in 1901, scoring his only reds goal after just two minutes of his debut in the Anfield derby in September of that year. He made just five more senior reds appearances. Martin’s bow 2004 - Future red Martin Škrtel won his first senior international cap as Slovakia lost 3-1 to host nation Japan in the Kirin Challenge Cup in Hiroshima. Finishing third 2021 – Future red Luis Díaz bagged a brace as Colombia beat Peru 3-2 in their Copa América third place play-off in Brasilia. New deals 2021 – Harvey Elliott signed a new contract, having signed from Fulham for an initial £1.2m in July 2019. On the same day, Colombian defender Anderson Arroyo joined Club Deportivo Mirandés on loan, making 31 senior appearances. 2020 – Czech keeper Vítezslav Jaroš signed a new contract. He arrived from SK Slavia Praha in 2017 and played as we won the FA Youth Cup in 2019. He has so far made it to the first-team bench on four occasions. 2004 - Darren Potter signed a new three-year contract. He made the break-through to the first team in Rafael Benítez’s first season, making a total of seventeen appearances before joining Wolverhampton Wanderers in January 2007. Jari up for the cup 1992 - Future red Jari Litmanen scored in the Finnish Cup Final as Myllykosken Pallo-47 beat FF Jaro 2-0 at the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki. Also on the move 1999 - Ex-reds striker Ronnie Rosenthal left Watford. He had been with the Hornets for two years, bagging eleven goals in 39 games, helping them to the Second Division title in his first season. 2010 – Ex-reserves defender David Raven joined Shrewsbury Town on a free transfer from Carlisle United. He played 28 times for the Shrews before being released the following May. 2013 - Keeper Jamie Stephens signed for Newport County having been released by the reds. He made just thirteen senior appearances before being released by the Welsh side in May 2015. 2015 - Abel Xavier was appointed Manager of Clube Desportivo das Aves, but only remained in charge for two months. 2016 – Keeper Ryan Fulton joined Chesterfield on loan, playing 22 senior games for the League One side that season. 2018 – Future reds loanee midfielder Arthur Melo was sold to Barcelona from Grêmio for an initial €31m, netting four times in 72 games before moving on to Juventus for an initial €72m in June 2020. 2022 – Colombian defender Anderson Arroyo signed a new contract, joining Deportivo Alavés on loan on the same day. Crouch heads south again 2004 - Future reds centre-forward Peter Crouch moved back to the south coast to join Southampton from Aston Villa in a £2m deal. He had netted just six times in 43 games for the Midlands outfit, but had a terrific season at St. Mary’s, bagging sixteen goals in 33 games as the Saints were relegated, as well as winning his first senior international cap. Carra honoured 2012 - Jamie Carragher was awarded an Honorary Fellowship by Liverpool John Moores University at Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral. Also in international action 2000 - Reds defender Rigobert Song played in Cameroon’s 3-0 World Cup qualifying defeat of Angola in Yaoundé. Meanwhile, future red El-Hadji Diouf featured in Senegal’s goalless draw with Egypt in Dakar. 2011 – Lucas Leiva played for Brazil as they were held to a 2-2 draw by Paraguay in their Copa América group game in Argentina. 2012 – Conor Coady, Suso, Jack Robinson and future red Tiago Ilori all featured at Under-19’s level in the European Championships Finals in Estonia, with all bar Ilori ending up on the winning side. 2015 – Future red Kostas Tsimikas featured for Greece Under-19’s as they were held to a goalless draw in a European Championships qualifier by Austria. On the committee again 2002 - Reds Director Noel White was re-appointed as Chairman of the FA International Committee for an eighth consecutive year. The former Liverpool Chairman, who was on the Board of Directors at Anfield for 21 years until his resignation in October 2006, had first been elected to this post in 1994.

Red trebles 1964 - Ian St. John scored three in a 6-1 First Division win over Sheffield United at Anfield. Roger Hunt bagged a brace, with Peter Thompson also on the scoresheet. 1913 - Arthur Metcalf bagged a treble in our first ever FA Cup meeting with the Gunners, then known as Woolwich Arsenal. We won 4-1 at the Manor Ground to reach the Third Round, with Billy Lacey also on target. Unfortunately, we went out to Newcastle United at the next hurdle. 1975 - We also faced Arsenal, losing a top-flight encounter 2-0 at Highbury as Alan Ball netted two of his eleven goals against the reds. John Toshack reached a century of League appearances for us that day. Hunting a new record 1969 - Roger Hunt bagged the only goal of the game against Sheffield Wednesday at Anfield, taking him past Gordon Hodgson to become our all-time record scorer in the League with 234, still a club record. Setting another record 2020 - The reds beat Southampton 4-0 to Anfield to ensure that we defeated all our opponents in a top-flight League season for the first time, although the score was goalless at half time. Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain opened the scoring, before Jordan Henderson netted and Mohamed Salah added a brace. This ensured we had a 22-point lead at the top of the table, the greatest ever at the end of a day of top-flight football. On the same day, former reds Assistant Manager Željko Buvac was appointed Sporting Director of Dynamo Moskva. Robbie’s return 2006 - Robbie Fowler came off the bench to make his first appearance in his second spell with the reds, shortly after Steven Gerrard had opened the scoring in our home Premiership meeting with Birmingham City. Robbie even had a late winner correctly ruled out for offside, while Daniel Agger made his reds bow in a game that was Rafael Benítez’s hundredth in charge. Jamie Carragher played his 241st League game for the reds, a club Premiership record, while Vladimír Šmicer came on as a late substitute for Morientes to make his first appearance of the season. Spackman sold 1989 - Nigel Spackman was sold to Queens Park Rangers for £500,000 after losing his place to Ronnie Whelan. He had made 63 first-team appearances without scoring, winning a League title medal in his one full season at Anfield. Up against the Blues 1992 - We lost 2-1 at home to Chelsea, with Ronnie Rosenthal netting for the reds after Vinnie Jones had put the visitors in front. Rosenthal then hit the bar when clean through before Dennis Wise put the Blues ahead again with one of his four goals past us, with Bruce Grobbelaar saving a late spot-kick taken by Wise. This was Chelsea’s first League win at Anfield since December 1935. 2009 – Frank Lampard was sent off as we beat Chelsea 2-0 at Anfield thanks to two late Fernando Torres goals to secure our 200th win in the Premier League, after Xabi Alonso had hit the crossbar. José Bosingwa amazingly escaped punishment for an assault on Yossi Benayoun right in front of the assistant referee in stoppage time. Alf off the mark 1933 – Outside-right Alf Hanson bagged the first of his 52 reds goals as Middlesbrough won 3-1 at Anfield. George Camsell netted two of his nine goals past us, with Harold Blackmore bagging the last of his five against the reds. Forward Ted Hancock played his tenth and last reds game. Alles Gute zum Geburtstag 1972 - Christian Ziege was born in Berlin. He signed in controversial circumstances from Middlesbrough in August 2000 for £5.5m and netted twice in 32 reds games, leaving Anfield for Tottenham Hotspur after just one year having won a Worthington Cup winner’s medal. He also won the Bundesliga twice, the UEFA Cup and Serie A during his club playing career, as well as Euro ’96 with Germany. 1952 – Full-back John Webb was born in Liverpool. He joined the reds in February 1969, making it onto the first-team bench six times in 1972/73 without making a senior appearance. He moved on to Tranmere Rovers in 1974, later playing in Belgium, the Netherlands and North America. 1937 - Keeper Tony Waiters was born in Southport. He won five senior England caps in 1964 while playing for Blackpool. He left there in 1967 to take on a coaching role with the reds, but returned to playing with Burnley in 1970, playing 38 League games before becoming the Manager of Plymouth Argyle in 1972. 1886 – Full-back Harry Griffiths was born in Middlesbrough. He joined the reds in 1905, but only played six senior games before joining Chesterfield Town in June 1908. He later linked up with ex-red Maurice Parry and Alex Raisbeck at Partick Thistle. Ton up for Jim 1908 - Left-half Jim Bradley made his hundredth reds appearance as we were held to a 1-1 draw at Anfield by Brighton & Hove Albion in the FA Cup Second Round, with Jack Cox heading in our equaliser late on after right-half Maurice Parry had conceded a penalty converted by Jack Hall. The visitors appealed in vain that reds keeper Sam Hardy had carried the ball over the line before scrambling it round the post. This was the first game in which Anfield’s new grandstand, where the Main Stand is today, was used. More red beginnings 1902 – Inside-forward Tommy Green made the first of his seven senior reds appearances in our goalless top-flight draw at Bury, while inside-left Bill White played for the sixth and last time. 2018 – Midfielder Curtis Jones signed for the reds as a professional. He made his senior debut in our FA Cup Third Round defeat at Wolverhampton Wanderers in January 2019, netting his first reds goal to secure a derby win at Anfield at the same stage a year later. He has struck eleven times in 97 reds games across his first five campaigns, so far helping us to claim the Premier League title and FA Community Shield. Reds farewells 2014 – Forward Tony Hateley died in Preston after a long illness. He became our record signing when he joined from Chelsea in July 1967 for £96,000 and got off to a flyer at Anfield, grabbing 27 goals in 52 appearances in his first season. Unfortunately, injuries took their toll, and he was sold to Coventry City only fourteen months after arriving at the club, after 28 goals in 56 outings in total. 1997 - Stan Collymore scored the only goal of the game at Derby County, our last ever visit to the Baseball Ground. The home side’s Daryl Powell was sent off at the beginning of the second period. 1958 – We lost 1-0 to Leyton Orient in a Second Division fixture at Brisbane Road, with forward Tony Rowley playing his 63rd and last reds game. 1947 – Albert Stubbins struck twice as we won 2-1 at Leeds United as outside-right Berry Nieuwenhuys played his 257th and last game for the club. 1900 – Forward Peter Kyle played his fifth and last game as we beat Stoke 1-0 in an FA Cup First Round replay at Anfield, thanks to an early John ‘Sailor’ Hunter goal. On the losing side We have suffered seven defeats in our fourteen League games on this day over the years. 1936 – We lost 6-1 at West Bromwich Albion, their record win over the reds. Jack Balmer grabbed our consolation, while Billy ‘Ginger’ Richardson netted a hat-trick for the Baggies, three of his nine goals against the reds. Stan Wood bagged two of his five against us, with Jack Mahon scoring the last of his four past us. Forward Jimmy Collins made his reds bow in this game. 1986 - Our 2-1 defeat at Ipswich Town, with both Kenny Dalglish and Ian Rush absent, helped lift Everton to the top of the table that day, although we still managed to claim the title at the end of the season. For Blackpool 1983 - We beat a Blackpool Select XI 6-2 in a friendly in aid of the Mayor of Blackpool’s Special Appeal Fund. Ian Rush bagged a brace, with Ronnie Whelan, Steve Nicol, Kenny Dalglish and Phil Neal also on target at Bloomfield Road. Beating the Mancs 1919 - Harold Wadsworth bagged the only goal of the game as we beat Manchester United in a Wartime League game at Old Trafford. Heading to the final 2017 – Future red Mohamed Salah scored in a penalty shoot-out as Egypt beat Burkina Faso 4-3 on penalties after their Semi-final in Gabon ended 1-1 after extra time. Sadly, they lost to Cameroon in the Final. Internationals on target 2022 – Takumi Minamino netted as Japan beat Saudi Arabia 2-0 in a World Cup qualifier in Saitama, his last goal as a reds player, with future red Wataru Endō skippering the side. Philippe Coutinho struck as Brazil thumped Paraguay 4-0 in a qualifier in Belo Horizonte, with fellow ex-red Luis Suárez on target as Uruguay beat Venezuela 4-1 in Montevideo. Luis Díaz won his first cap as a reds player as Colombia lost a qualifier 1-0 in Argentina. Fabinho and future red Darwin Núñez both also played for their countries that day. 2019 – Future red Takumi Minamino scored as Japan lost 3-1 to Qatar in the AFC Asian Cup Final in Abu Dhabi. 2004 - Ex-red Titi Camara grabbed a late equaliser for Guinea as they held the host nation to a 1-1 draw and secured their place in the Quarter-finals of the Africa Cup of Nations. 2015 – Kolo Touré faced ex-red Carl Medjani as Ivory Coast beat Algeria 3-1 at the same stage of this competition in Equatorial Guinea. Meanwhile, future red Naby Keïta played for Guinea as they lost 3-0 to Ghana. Future red Ozan Kabak played for Turkey Under-15’s as they beat the Czech Republic 4-2 in Side. 1998 – Future red Rigobert Song played for Cameroon as they lost a friendly 1-0 in the Ivory Coast. On the same day, Brad Friedel played as the USA beat Cuba 3-0 in a Gold Cup game in Oakland. 2003 – Future red Carl Medjani won his tenth and last cap for France Under-17’s, skippering them as they were held to a goalless draw by Burkina Faso in the UEFA-CAF Meridian Cup in Egypt. David Raven and Mark Smyth played for England in the same tournament that day. 1990 – Øyvind Leonhardsen played as Norway Under-21’s lost 1-0 to Iraq in a tournament game in Baghdad. Other reds games 1934 – We lost 1-0 at Leicester City with Danny Liddle scoring one of his four goals against us. 1930 – Steve Coglin bagged a treble as Grimsby Town beat the reds 3-2 at Blundell Park, with Jimmy Smith netting both our goals. From the north to the south 1899 - Ex-reds forward Harry Bradshaw appeared for the South as they lost 3-1 to a representative North side, while a Tottenham Hotspur player. On the move 2021 – Two centre-halves arrived on this day, with Ozan Kabak arriving on loan from Schalke 04 on loan, and Ben Davies signing from Preston North End for £500,000, with Sepp van den Berg joining the Lilywhites on a temporary basis in exchange. Kabak played thirteen times, with Davies failing to make a senior appearance and van den Berg playing sixteen games in this initial loan.
