    18th February

Ten of the best 1896 - We registered our all-time record League victory. George Allan scored four and Malcolm McVean grabbed a hat-trick in our 10-1 Second Division win over Rotherham Town at Anfield. Jimmy Ross added a brace, with Frank Becton also on the scoresheet. Unfortunately, only 2,000 supporters were present that day. Beating the Mancs at last 2006 - Peter Crouch headed the only goal of the game as we beat Manchester United in an FA Cup tie for the first time in 85 years, in our Fifth Round fixture at Anfield. United substitute Alan Smith broke his leg in a challenge with Joh

Souey on his way out 1994 - Graeme Souness took charge of his final game as Manager as we were humbled at home by First Division Bristol City, who won an FA Cup Third Round replay 1-0 thanks to Brian Tinnion’s second-half goal. Heading to finals 2005 - Steven Gerrard grabbed the only goal of our Carling Cup Semi-final second leg at Watford, with Igor Bišcan playing his hundredth reds game. Florent Sinama-Pongolle came on as a substitute for Milan Baroš and was later himself substituted just four minutes later having damaged a cartilage in his knee. 2012 – We drew 2-2 with Manchester

Xabi from his own half 2006 - Jan Kromkamp made his reds bow in a thrilling FA Cup Third Round tie at Luton Town. We took the lead through Steven Gerrard before falling 3-1 behind with Djibril Cissé having a penalty saved with the score at 2-1. Florent Sinama-Pongolle bagged a brace with his first goal being our thirteenth from a substitute that season, a new club record. Xabi Alonso also struck twice, with our final goal being an outrageous strike from inside his own half, with the keeper making his way back from a corner. Scott Carson made his ninth and final reds appearance in this game.
  4. A rare treble for the King 1982 - Kenny Dalglish scored a hat-trick as we beat Manchester City 5-2 at Anfield, with Phil Neal and Ian Rush adding the others. In fact, King Kenny only ever bagged two League trebles for the reds, with both coming against the side from Maine Road. 1975 - We also entertained City, with midfielder Peter Cormack nabbing the only goal of the game in his 178th and final reds appearance. Happy birthdays 1947 - Doug Livermore was born in Liverpool. He signed pro terms in November 1965 after starting out with Bolton Wanderers, making just eighteen appearances

    8th May

Clinching the title 1979 - A 3-0 defeat of Aston Villa at Anfield handed us our eleventh League title, thanks to goals from Alan Kennedy, Kenny Dalglish and Terry McDermott. We ended the season with a record 68 points and record goal difference of +69, having only conceded sixteen League goals during the entire campaign. This game was originally postponed from New Year’s Day. The arrival of an Anfield legend 1939 - Left-half Bob Paisley signed from Bishop Auckland for a £10 signing-on fee, and £5 per week. He served the club well in his 277 games, notching twelve times, before joining
