    Four apiece 1986 - Steve McMahon missed a penalty but struck four goals as we recorded the equal biggest ever win in the League Cup, thumping Fulham 10-0. Ian Rush and John Wark both netted braces with the other goals coming from Ronnie Whelan and Steve Nicol, while Rush also struck the post twice.     The final piece of the jigsaw 1997 - Paul Ince was signed by Roy Evans from Internazionale for £4.2m.     Title number five 1947 - We clinched our fifth League title when Stoke City lost 2-1 at Sheffield United. We therefore finished one point ahead of Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers, and two ahead of the Potters. The news came through on the day that we clinched the Liverpool Senior Cup by beating Everton 2-1, thanks to goals from Jack Balmer and William Watkinson.     The birth of a great keeper 1940 - Tommy ‘The Flying Pig’ Lawrence was born in Dailly, Ayrshire. The legendary keeper signed professional terms in October 1957 and played 390 times for us, winning two League title medals and an FA Charity Shield as well as being a member of the 1965 FA Cup winning side. He left the club in November 1971 to join Tranmere Rovers. 1929 - Centre-forward Louis Bimpson was born in Rainford.
