Guilio, great post, i agree, it is a jewel. One of the most famous cathedrals of world football, it is our only permanent asset, it keeps us what we are. To dismiss staying as offhandedly as people seem to makes me very sad and frustrated. Agree about the mayoral thing too, i postulated a while ago that we need a combination of America's can do attitude with respect to building and expanding, Germany's attitude to stadiums - look at the development of the westfalonstadion, and Italy's attitude of 'accidentally bulldoze that row of shops, we'll deal with the consequences later'. last one is a bit tongue in cheek but it might take something like that.

A new ground would be a disaster for our finances. Aside from that the new ground always seemed a bit of a vanity project from Moores and then the Americans. I would love nothing more than for all parties to sit down and go over the reasons we can't stay and redevelop. I'm sure many of the reasons mooted at the time have ceased to be an issue, and the ones that still are (the extra corporate seats) could be factored into the designs (in a new main stand) by an imaginative architect. i think the drama on this thread is misplaced. short / mid term we'll be sound, we're a great team low on confidence and having a bad time of it with injuries. long term we're f***ed though unless the ownership changes, the effects of standing still will start to be felt in a big way next season if and when city turf out nana barnet, get a big name in and splash a load more cash around, united get some midfielders and another striker and the mid table cloggers keep outspending us. nobody can seriously and sensibly criticise rafa's tenure in my opinion, but he's starting to look like the boy on the burning deck.

The treatment Rafa gets would be hilarious if it wasn't so damaging. In a parallel universe somewhere, Capello is our manager and Rafa is England manager, Capello is getting slaughtered for being cold and not respecting his senior pros, and Rafa is loved for introducing much needed discipline and breaking up the old boys network.
