that's alright then. here was me thinking he's been completely deserted by the fanbase despite blindingly obvious evidence that he is pretty much the only man at the top of our club with a decent bone in his body. without even going into the fact that he is one of the best managers around. don't you think he's lost (at the very least) a vocal minority of matchgoing fans?

That's exactly what i'm getting at yes mate. I'm gutted Barry chose City this summer, it has had a critical effect on us controlling games (we aren't) and recovering from the loss of Alonso. You can definitely see that it has had a negative effect, which is why I find the summer before even more interesting. At that stage half the fanbase were happy enough to let Xabi go for 15m and get Barry for 12m. Would we have gone on to do better and not miss Xabi at all? Would Keane have come here and done better? or not come at all? That's what i mean by parallel universe stuff. It's pointless to think about it but i do think about it quite a lot.
