Can't even begin to imagine how highly Rafa must rate Alves. Normally no way would he have put up with all this s***, nor recommended we pay as much as we are willing to. I really hope we get this guy, not so much because I've been impressed by the lad, but more importantly because Rafa clearly thinks very, very highly of him indeed...

Sorry Emile, doesn't look like we're going to need Plan Y, Akinbiye is in the bag so you can go to Wigan...

beckenbauer against cheeting

Good points from The Kaizer - hopefully others at the top of the game will sit up and take note. Fingers crossed Beckenbauer gets the FIFA Presidency and makes a point of sorting this out, because Blatter would rather be bringing in half goals for kicking the ball over the bar and banning goalkeepers, that kind of thing. -

I genuinely had a problem with Portuguese football way before they knocked England out. I'd been very disillusioned with the antics of the Portuguese after we played Boavista and Porto in the Champions League. It was exactly the same bloody carry on, diving, card-waving, stop-start all the way through. Seeing their national team carry on the same way in this tournament just reminded me what they were like. Remember those disgraceful scenes with Xavier when they practically assaulted the ref when he had handballed it on the line and did deserve to go. Their game needs someone to clean it up, because there's no doubt they have some fantastic, hugely talented footballers so there's just no need for it. Its not fair on the referees for one thing; look at the mess that Portugal's game with Holland became; Ivanov's career has probably gone down the pan because of that, and a lot of it was down to gamesmanship...

I can see the Juve hierarchy bursting into evil laughter as the verdict sends them down to Serie C much to the shock and surprise of everyone in attendance. Moggi stands up, now with bloody fangs sticking out of the corners of his mouth, and drawing his black cape around him, points to the defence team and screams; 'YOU FOOLS, think of our transfer budget in 2009 mwua ha ha ha' Before changing into a bat and flying out of the courtroom window...

FIFA should start replaying games and punishing dives retrospectively. It really is very hard for referees when the likes of the Portuguese are cheating incessantly; in fact its practically impossible for them to pick all the diving out from the genuine falling over and being fouled. The only way to stop it is for officials to review slow motion replays the likes of which we are privvy to on our televisions, and take action with bans and fines. Until Blatter decides campaigning against diving is a vote-winner though, there will be nothing done about it I'm afraid. That's how much power that corrupt c*nt holds.

Germany against Italy and Argentina against Mexico were the purest games of football you could wish to see, they were both fantastic, absorbing games. The fact that both are being spoken of as classics, without either boasting a feast of goals says a lot for the technical level of both matches. The passing and movement was just of the very highest standard, and watching either game will make you realise fully just how far England were from the required level. Diving and gamesmanship, particularly by the despicable Portuguese and perhaps even more depressingly a great player and decent bloke in Thierry Henry, has really soured it for me. Also England's performance was a downer - they really were poor to watch, no pleasant abiding memories at all. Overall I can't help feeling disappointed by the tournament as a whole, when I thought in the early stages it was shaping up to be a classic.

Thanks for that positive spin Luciano. So being sent down to Serie C is in actual fact the first step in Juve's masterplan for world domination... Very cunning indeed these Italians.

I tried to put a bet on Ronaldo crying publicly after the game yesterday, but Ladbrokes were having none of it...

Take off my trousers to reveal my 'Liverpool Football Club, Double Winners 1985/86' ballcrushers, red with yellow y-front. That would impress him...

If you went to the counter to buy something, and the person behind the till took off the price label and stuck a new, higher price on you'd be outraged. Agreeing a price then changing it, to my mind is a pretty f*cking bad way to carry on. I wouldn't deal with any club which did that...

Portugal's antics are just thoroughly unpleasant; are their kids brought up to cheat? Those adverts with the players training to dive must have been actual footage from the Portugal camp. Every game they play in is terrible to watch - its just one long round of diving, free-kicks and surrounding the ref etc, the football is practically a side issue. All three of Portugal's games in the last 16 are case in point. How ridiculous it was to see the Portuguese bench last night, led by Scolari, waving their arms about in absolute outrage at the injustices being done to them by the referee, only to watch slow motion replay after slow motion replay of their players flinging themselves to the ground with little, or often no contact at all. During every game I've seen them in, the ref spends the whole game trying to work out what is a dive and what isn't, then the opposition players get caught up in having a go to the ref about the dives, its hardly even football. The people of Portugal should be ashamed of their players rather than proud, semi-final or not. It's not hypocritical - I know when our players take stupid dives I feel embarrased; Garcia's antics which got him and Mullins sent off for example, I thought he'd been a right t**. Gerrard going down with no contact for England - come on Stevie get up lad. If I was Portuguese I'm not sure I could've even watched the dying swans representing my country in such underhand manner.

And nobby's nuts - bring them as well, they're delicious...

Or Osorio - who has all those attributes and is still in South America, so would be cheapish probably. I should be this lad's agent...

Then Rafa could make him do the dustin round Melwood...

Or Mexico's Osorio... Seriously! He looked ace in the World Cup, and can play just about anywhere on the right or in the middle...

Will be made up if he does leave Chelsea this summer. No doubt they'll bring in someone fantastic, but all things considered I'd say Gallas is pretty much irreplaceable...
