In terms of big prizes you are right. Last time we were looking to appoint a manager the right way there were some very obvious candidates amongst the up and coming talent, the 2 main ones being Mourinho and Rafa who had both won top honours with 2nd tier sides. This time those managers just don't exist, so if we are looking at long term up and coming talent (which I hope we are) then there have to be some other criteria by which to judge them. Some examples might be: * track record developing sides * results against teams with greater resources * record in European competitions * football style/tactical intelligence * integration of youth players * evidence of improving performance over time * RoI transfer record * willingness to build a dynasty * etc Based on his career to date Klopp looks a good bet against many of these criteria. We don't know much about his pedigree in Europe, he has played there with Mainz, but was knocked out by Sevilla (no shame). The rest of it he looks to be getting some good scores. He's been relegated with Mainz as well as promoted... but Rafa had had a few ups and downs as well. Laudrup, by comparison, no great achievements in Europe either, some attractive attacking footy and some good domestic results, but there's no evidence there of him having the appetite for a long term dynasty building job. His success in Denmark could be argued was in part due to him being able to attract better players to the league just becaiuse of his personal reputation (although he still had to go and win the things, granted). There are of course other good candidates. I wouldn't like to make the decision Klopp, however, I like.
