  9. A quick look at some of their fixtures around then shows that Özil, Khedira, Neuer, Boateng were involved in some 2009 senior qualifiers after those u-21 Euros. But not before. Not conclusive proof of anything but point is they play the u-21s and aren't deemed to be 'too good' for them.
  10. Ha ha, he's going to Malmö FF v Atletico in the CL in a few weeks. Malmö are bringing him on to the pitch at half time to say thanks for everything....
  11. I'd say a good starting point would be the U-21 Euro final from Sweden a few years ago when a fair few of the German WC winning side this summer walloped England in the final. Compare and contrast etc etc

  17. Luis Suárez has been presented with the Golden Shoe trophy by his former Liverpool manager, Kenny Dalglish, at a ceremony in Barcelona. Suárez, who signed for Barcelona in the summer, receives the award having finished last season – along with Real Madrid’s Cristiano Ronaldo – as scorer of the most league goals in Europe. The pair each scored 31 times, Suárez’s goals coming for Liverpool. The 27-year-old Uruguay striker said on receiving the trophy from Dalglish, whom he had reportedly requested be involved in the ceremony: “I want to thank all the most important people in my life, my wife and my children. And of course everyone at Liverpool – all my colleagues, not just last year but over the whole three and a half years I was at the club. “They were spectacular years and it was thanks to this man here [Dalglish] that they signed me, that they noticed me. Now I am moving on to a new period and I have to enjoy this next stage of my life. It is a dream come true.” A message from the Liverpool captain, Steven Gerrard, was played during the event in which the midfielder had nothing but kind words for his former team-mate. “Huge congratulations from myself, Luis’s ex-team-mates and everyone connected to Liverpool Football Club,” the midfielder said. “This is a very special award and it is thoroughly deserved. You were unbelievable all season for us, a magical player, and Barcelona are very lucky to have your services moving forward. “I’m sure there are many more individual awards to come. Good luck for the future, mate, we miss you very much.” When Dalglish was asked how he thinks Suárez will fare at Barcelona, the Scot said: “I don’t think there will be anybody who will be able to stop him. “He has been fantastic everywhere he has been – a huge success and fabulously entertaining. There is no reason why he won’t continue that for Barcelona. But if he does hit a problem, I’m sure we can take him back on loan!” Dalglish signed Suárez from Ajax for £22.8m in January 2011.

  20. If managerial candidates were sourced and interviewed by HR teams instead of 'football committees' there would be a lot more minority candidates interviewed. Since that's not going to happen, I am all in favour of the Rooney Rule as a regulatory means of breaking through the prejudicial selection process that exists.
  21. I have it on. Looking fwd to the post match interview at least.
