That's how I think it should be, on the basis that that's what I always thought it was. Then they ask the board to go and close the deal, and go along to meet the player and sell it in themselves. But in 2014 I am sure things are much more complicated. Which goes back to the point I've made a couple of times lately that upping our game when it comes to keeping agents sweet might be the single most useful thing our transfer committee could do. We spent £10m on agent fees in the last set of accounts I think, clearly we aren't spending it on the right agents.

The blame game does mine in, I think it's inevitable we'd want to talk about the committee, which is the biggest apparent weakness in the club apart from Skrtel.... Maybe the committee is like an eBay account that JWH logs in to every week to review our highest bid on what's on our watchlist. It would explain a lot.

Not being smart but I don't think anyone really knows that, do they? What I do know is that one week Brendan didn't want Mario and three or four later we bought him. It didn't strike me as the usual smokescreen bluff, but maybe it was.

Or give Brendan sole control. Presumably, he does not have that right now and blaming him for all the transfers is at least unfair and at worst plain wrong.

That's one of the main reasons we were all buzzing about it. People crawling over broken glass to come and play for one of Europe's most exciting sides, maybe even play with the best player in the world not playing in Spain. Oh well.

You can't prevent the goalkeeper from restarting play like that. If you could, why not have three forwards run in and block him down every time he has the ball in his hands?

They'll catch up with the fans eventually, logically. I'm not saying it's 'right' either, I am just saying that it is practically inarguable and unavoidable that nobody is winning this league any other way. Unless the great football bubble burst finally happens, but that doesn't seem likely any time soon. And all these owner-speculators will run away as quick as they can in that scenario anyway.

Us thinking players won't join us is the cycle we have to break and money is the only way to do it. Right now we are in the CL and in contention to be next season. We can't relocate to London, we can't increase the average air temperature in Liverpool, but we can pay him money nobody else will and blow smoke up his hole. It requires the right leadership to do so. We keep picking off Cabayes and Defoes, other never-weres and plenty of maybe-will-bes, we are going to sit in this cycle of hope and failure for good.

Who here knows how this transfer committee works and how much actual responsibility Brendan has? Transfers are done in his name and he'll carry the can, certainly. But perhaps the perception of blame is different on the inside. Brendan must know that he needs to address the issue though or it will become toxic. There are enough 'Brendan Rodgers Disastrous Transfer Record' infographics going around today. Whatever the status quo has been to date, it needs to change.

My gut feeling is Brendan knows he needs a massive signing that gives us an extra dimension and injects instant belief in ours and fear in the oppo. It has to be Reus. Pay him whatever the f*** he wants and get him signed in January. They are likely making the knock outs of the CL but are 16th in the Bundesliga. It has to be Reus, even if he doesnt come til the summer.

I haven't moaned so much, overall, for me. I think I am in full blown grief for the attitude and possibilities of last season. It's a body blow of a loss, in our collective absurd football bubble world view, obviously.

We broke the mould and 'discovered' the best striker that moneyball can ever deliver. Didn't win the league, and couldn't keep him. The model failed, it's time to face up to the hard facts and bring in at least one elite player per season on the kind of contract that ensures they stay for at least 3 or 4 years.
