Cobs Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 (edited) 74 charges been brought by the FA against Chelsea - relating to finances through the Abramovich era they're already guilty as these are issue that Boehly et al have volunteered to the FA, so shouldn't take the time the CIty business has Edited September 11, 2025 by Cobs
Candystore Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 Old article but gives you an idea of what they were doing: https://www.theguardian.com/world/2023/nov/15/chelsea-fc-face-new-questions-over-how-roman-abramovich-funded-success
McBain Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 I look forward to the outcome of this in 2031

I always find Chelsea the slipperiest of them all when it comes to the rules.

Cam Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 Boehly has clearly gone to the FA to curry favour with them and get a clean slate so his New New Chelsea can cheat with a clear conscience.
libero Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 What's the odds on this being complete before City's case??

To be fair, that's probably the most morally right thing he could have done.
YugoB Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 The origin of why football is the way it is, and why the likes of City have done what they have. 1
Candystore Posted September 11, 2025 Posted September 11, 2025 Anyone know why the FA have charged Chelsea and not the Premier League?

Yeah, this is a tricky one. Cooperating is obviously better than what City have done, but it doesn't detract from the fact that like City, Chelsea built their success on cheating. It's not like they should get away with it just because they did cooperate and there's different owners now. Points deduction would be nice, but unfortunately I see a hefty fine as more likely, which is almsot the same as letting them get away with it, particularly given the financial model Chelsea have created in the new regime. 1
PhilM Posted September 12, 2025 Posted September 12, 2025 Obviously f*** Chelsea, but it seems a bit unfair that the current ownership should get fined for something the previous owners did.

Nah. They're gonna get a reduced punishment for reporting it as soon as they found out, but if a club's done something wrong it needs to be penalised. 2
PhilM Posted September 12, 2025 Posted September 12, 2025 Sure, but it's kind of like if you buy a car and then get nicked because the last owners stole it.
Gethin Posted September 12, 2025 Posted September 12, 2025 Literally no-one would be buying Chelsea from Abrahmovic without being aware that there were some nasty skeletons in the closet. It's like when you don't get the logbook when you buy the nicked car, something probably should have tipped you off before it got repossessed and returned to its rightful owner. 1

But you'd be handling stolen goods so it'd still be illegal and you'd still be breaking the law... Maybe a better analogy would be the Post Office Scandal.... is it fair that the PO has to pay the compensation today for something that happened twenty years ago? Yes. Is it fair that the current PO employees are culpable and punished for their part in it? Not if they had no part in it but yes if they tried to perpetuate the cover up. So I think it's 100% fair game that the current Chelsea establishment will be punished for it but I'd understand them being dealt with with a degree or leniency because Boehly coughed up to it.

Yeah - that’s EXACTLY what they want you and the PL panel to think fact is they won titles by cheating and should have them stripped off them, be fined & relegated 29 minutes ago, PhilM said: Sure, but it's kind of like if you buy a car and then get nicked because the last owners stole it. It’s nothing like this It’s more like buying a car full of stolen goods and saying - ‘I get to keep all this don’t I - cos I didn’t steal the car, it was the last guy who robbed all this?’ Chelsea are where they are, have the wealth and status that they now enjoy through cheating Edited September 12, 2025 by Cobs 1 2
Zoob Posted September 12, 2025 Posted September 12, 2025 It's definitely more complex than the City case, but it's almost like the most reasonable thing to do is to strip them of everything they won during that period. That way you're not punishing the current regime, who have exploited every loophole possible rather than outright cheating, but you are showing that there are consequences for cheating. Send the police round to all the former players' houses to take back their medals.
