74 charges been brought by the FA against Chelsea - relating to finances through the Abramovich era

they're already guilty as these are issue that Boehly et al have volunteered to the FA, so shouldn't take the time the CIty business has

50k fine

it's going to be substantially more than that

however, they flagged this up in the first place and have co-operated fully so we're probably not looking at relegations - but a big fine/points deduction/transfer ban isn't out of the question

That would be nice. I always find Chelsea the slipperiest of them all when it comes to the rules.

Might give us a sense of the punishment City might get given they haven’t cooperated whereas Chelsea seemingly have.

Boehly has clearly gone to the FA to curry favour with them and get a clean slate so his New New Chelsea can cheat with a clear conscience.

What's the odds on this being complete before City's case??

considering Chelsea have given it all to the FA on a plate - probably quite high

So that would be low odds then Shirley??

Even money or odds on IMHO, if you bet your £5 your not getting much back for it.

Know your betting talk sonny......

To be fair, that's probably the most morally right thing he could have done.

Anyone know why the FA have charged Chelsea and not the Premier League?

At a guess 'cos the offences related to player agent payments & transfer matters are handled by the FA, not the PL?

Yeah, this is a tricky one. Cooperating is obviously better than what City have done, but it doesn't detract from the fact that like City, Chelsea built their success on cheating. It's not like they should get away with it just because they did cooperate and there's different owners now.

Points deduction would be nice, but unfortunately I see a hefty fine as more likely, which is almsot the same as letting them get away with it, particularly given the financial model Chelsea have created in the new regime.

Obviously f*** Chelsea, but it seems a bit unfair that the current ownership should get fined for something the previous owners did.

Nah.

They're gonna get a reduced punishment for reporting it as soon as they found out, but if a club's done something wrong it needs to be penalised.

Literally no-one would be buying Chelsea from Abrahmovic without being aware that there were some nasty skeletons in the closet.

It's like when you don't get the logbook when you buy the nicked car, something probably should have tipped you off before it got repossessed and returned to its rightful owner.

Sure, but it's kind of like if you buy a car and then get nicked because the last owners stole it.

But you'd be handling stolen goods so it'd still be illegal and you'd still be breaking the law...

Maybe a better analogy would be the Post Office Scandal.... is it fair that the PO has to pay the compensation today for something that happened twenty years ago? Yes.

Is it fair that the current PO employees are culpable and punished for their part in it? Not if they had no part in it but yes if they tried to perpetuate the cover up.

So I think it's 100% fair game that the current Chelsea establishment will be punished for it but I'd understand them being dealt with with a degree or leniency because Boehly coughed up to it.

Yeah - that’s EXACTLY what they want you and the PL panel to think

fact is they won titles by cheating and should have them stripped off them, be fined & relegated

It’s nothing like this

It’s more like buying a car full of stolen goods and saying - ‘I get to keep all this don’t I - cos I didn’t steal the car, it was the last guy who robbed all this?’

Chelsea are where they are, have the wealth and status that they now enjoy through cheating

It's definitely more complex than the City case, but it's almost like the most reasonable thing to do is to strip them of everything they won during that period. That way you're not punishing the current regime, who have exploited every loophole possible rather than outright cheating, but you are showing that there are consequences for cheating. Send the police round to all the former players' houses to take back their medals.

Yeah, that's what I was really inarticulately trying to say.
