I suppose, Devil's Advocate, some are seeing that we won a title last season and they don't watch us every week and just think we've been unlucky and he should be afforded a blip. That POV will be heightenned if we finish 3rd or 4th after all this.

But it obviously ignores just how bad and incoherent we've been. How bad a coaching job he's done for so long too.

There’s some of that.

I reckon lots of it is just being wedded to an image of being better than others. It was the same towards the end of Houllier.

I do think that those who went all in on him staying have largely just moved to tone policing instead of actually insisting he should stay.

It reminds me more of people sticking up for Karius than anything with a manager really

And some were trying to convince themselves that we're going to start the season with Ward as our number one

That was mainly Pip too.

Yes absolutely.

The worst stuff is the (not unreasonable) stance that because of Jota it's all broken and he shouldn't be judged for most of the season, that then turns into 'well, where are the haters now?!' when he does then win the odd game.

We should tolerate a season or two thrown into the bin, in order to not be like the others.

Nothing to do with whether or not this approach has any value or tangible benefits.

Cult of the manager.

The logical extension - no player may be sold until he's had at least three seasons to settle.

Yeah. It doesn’t work. Either this season (and only this season because grief cycles go from mid August to late May) is a write off or we are allowed to look at performances.

Inzaghi's learning English

Al Nassir won yesterday so they're definitely winning the title, I don't think Inzaghi will survive not winning title/CL despite being undefeated all season

Enrique said that game against Bayern Munich was the best he’s ever been involved with without a doubt…

I can feel myself going full on Mean Girls.

Is he still only playing 352?

I have seen the film and the football match(es) in question but I am going to need more from you here.

I’m being a bitch and denuding Slot of the most important thing he had, the memory of that game against PSG and the place he thought he had in their hearts.

Oh yeah! That was always complete rubbish, not too dissimilar to Arteta's comments when they also were humbled by PSG.

Still can't get over Slot using PSG as the template since last year. His whole 'I wish the rest of this bloody sport would play like us' schtick. Then he sets us up like he did against them this time around.

Like a proper sitcom bit that.

The one that sticks in my mind is that he privately felt vindicated for dropping Salah because form improved after. Despite that "form" including the five draws against promoted teams where we were absolute dogs*** and several defeats

And literally no one played right wing in his place.  Was a great big gaping hole in the team and he just stood there smirking to himself.
