Am I the only one of the opinion that we need to dive MORE, not less?

 

Gerrard is a master of it for two reasons - 1. He's English, therefore he gets the decisions ; 2. The referees like him, therefore he gets teh decisions.

 

Suarez is in a bit of a mess right now because he's neither English, doesn't play for Man utd nor do refs/other managers like him....but the solution to this isn't to cut out diving from the rest of the team, its' to f***ing DIVE MORE, and MORE CLEVERLY (not Tom).

 

Xabi Alonso wasn't a diver, but he was a master of letting the ref know he'd been fouled.

They don't have to dive, they have to learn how to take a tackle and con the ref.

 

Agger did it today on the edge of our box, he was out numbered 2 to 1 and he drew a foul by getting close to a turning forward.

 

If they need coaching, just get Hamman in, or ask Mascherano to come over for a few hours. He does the crumple almost as good as Didi used to in days gone by.

 

Know where the ref is, know where the linesamn is, if they are on their blind side you try it early in the game and see what happens.

 

Our players are too frigging naive to do stuff like that, other than Suarez who will never get a PK the way he is going.

Refs keep saying that their jobs would be easier if the players didn't dive, but if the refs did their jobs right, players wouldn't need to dive.

 

Plus we need to be smarter, on the pitch and off it. But thats such a tired argument as its been like that for years now.

No. We do need to do it both more and better.

 

The reason? Other teams do it, get away with it and benefit from it. Meaning we need to be better than them at it.

My point is, it is this he should be focusing on coaching them. Not how to dive and harangue the ref.

 

If he gets that one right, the others won't matter.

Will make no difference either way, theres clearly a set reffing agenda against us. We've been quiet and respectful and got nothing, we've surrounded them and got fined, we criticise through the press and get nothing, Gerrard/Carra/Suarez/Lucas moan at them on the pitch, we get nothing.

What it is in effect though is another element of discretion the officials can use to load the game against us with plausible deniability, ie. Man u's dives get them pens while ours get us yellow cards

 

if they actually want to eradicate it from the game - and in view of the above, that would be to our advantage - then they need to punish it with post-match video review leading to significant suspensions. There's no way a referee can make consistently accurate judgements in real time

Old school nonsense. It is no longer possible to just say that. Even Barca, probably the greatest team ever, push the rules, break them when its required, to win a game.

Not necessarily. Sunday's game was allowed to descend into a farce by that c*** of a ref not imposing the rules of the game. He reffed it subjectively, it's fundamentally wrong. This isn't about missing a sly dig or a dive, it's about giving a yellow card for a yellow card infringement etc.

Nope. There are currently five officials at every premier league game, four of whom are actually involved in officiating the game. If you can't pick up what you need to with all four people watching the game then you need to either change those people or change what they are doing. Changing the way the game is played should be the last resort option.

aye, we've had two refs on the trot who have visibly lost control and we've got stewards having to mooch up and down the steps telling people to calm down

 

they're fast becoming the spectacle and it'd go against human nature that they're not onto each other about the atmosphere up here nowadays

as for the officials- there's 3 of them really involved in officiating and frequently 2 of those are told to do no more than offsides and throw-ins by the other.

 

Regardless the consistent failure of the 1,3,4 or 5 of them on a regular basis to accurately do their job means it's about time football caught up with most of the rest of the sporting planet and started using the technology available to them

see him stop and point at a stoke player after a foul a few times, never went back to them though

 

and calling over the captain to speak to him about another player when the other player's offence clearly wasn't sufficient to give a yellow card is just as pathetic

Give them whatever they need to arrive at the right decision. (which would then remove the need for retrospective action which I don't agree with anyway as it does not do the aggrieved team any good whatsoever)

aye, they use this to put a block on any technology. The rules need changing.
