Seriously, what are they thinking? There's no excuse.

Premier Soccer Saturday set for live audience

Friday, 1 April 2011

RTÉ Sport's Premier Soccer Saturday is to be broadcast in front of a live audience for the first time on 1 May, in association with programme sponsor the Irish Sun.

Presenter Darragh Maloney will be joined by former Premier League players and Irish internationals Ray Houghton, Ronnie Whelan and Kenny Cunningham for the show, and audience members will be able to interact with the RTÉ soccer panel for discussion of all the issues.

The show will feature highlights of all the day's top-flight action including Liverpool v Newcastle, Birmingham City v Wolves, Arsenal v Manchester United and Manchester City v West Ham.

Premier Soccer Saturday presenter Darragh Maloney said: 'I'm really excited about the live show and there is going to be a really great atmosphere in studio on the night.

'As the presenter I try to ask the panel the questions that I think the viewers at home want to know but this time they'll be the ones actually doing the asking so I think the guys are set for a real grilling.'

both belligerent and both display limited ability to look beyond the end of their nose when discussing things about the club so if anyone was going to pull a stunt like this, i'd have their names near the top of the list. Surely they are sufficiently clued up though, surely they wouldn't be on the Sun payroll ?

Hasn't Houghton done something else like this before with The Sun? Something to do with Football Manager or Championship Manager?

Nor have I.

Emailed RTE at the time about it and they duly ignored it.

Yep same here, didn't receive anything back.

A few mates and I did stir up a hornets nest some years previously over us being second choice in the Champions League and their Manc bias.

Dunphy is the Manc fan.

Most of their guest panellists are ex-Liverpool.

Flagged this sponsorship in the Hillsborough forum when it was first announced. Haven't watched the premiership on RTE since and wouldn't be bothered to listen to pretty much anything Houghton or Whelan have to say anyway unless it's stories about the old days.

shame on the pair of them for it taking RTE to announce their non-involvement as well. neither of them prepared to admit culpability and withdraw off their own back.

Think they were claiming to know nothing about it until they were told, presumably by people involved in the Justice campaign.

Which may or may not be true.

Either way, am glad they aren't appearing. Doesn;t alter the fact that they've come across as right c**** for years now anyway.
