Dominus Maximus Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Meet him outside Parken in Copenhagen tonight. Shook his hand, got a picture with him and told him that he was doing a great job. He replied that the club needed all the support it could get and walked on with his big bodyguard. After the game we ran into each other again and he waived... What a day.

Nerik Posted February 9, 2011 Posted February 9, 2011 Met him outside Anfield in 1999 and called him Mr. Lee when asking him to have our photo taken. "Sure and call me Sammy!" was his reply. Met him 1yr later and he signed the photo for me, Top man.
smithdown Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Second cousin, whatever that means. His family is from London Road. A real true fact.

David Hodgson Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Second cousin, whatever that means. His family is from London Road. A real true fact. Wow. That's cool. I know Sammy . I had a semi falling out with his bird years ago (a business matter), but Sammy remained a gent. All fine now, and he's a good lad IMHO. Met him outside Anfield in 1999 and called him Mr. Lee when asking him to have our photo taken. "Sure and call me Sammy!" was his reply. Met him 1yr later and he signed the photo for me, Top man. Of course, what he didn't pick up on was that you were parodying his encounter with the legendary Paul Breitner, whom having been marked out of the game by a 20 year old Lee in a 1981 European Cup semi V Bayern Munich, approached the young midfielder after the game and said in Schwarzenegger-like tones ' you played well Sammy'. In awe of the German captain, Sammy replies humbly 'thank you Mr Breitner'.
muleskinner Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Second cousin, whatever that means. His family is from London Road. A real true fact.2nd cousins share a great-grandparent.

smithdown Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 2nd cousins share a great-grandparent. Well that's not it so if anyone was truly impressed then it's a bit of a let-down. It's by marriage, I think, but it's all so distant I wouldn't know the ins and outs of it. Maybe owenthomas knows, he's onto everyone around there.
johngibo YPC Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I was working in the Royal Court in the Autumn/Winter of 2004. Bill Wyman was on. Anyway Sammy Lee comes up to the box office and says they should be on the guestlist. Sammy Lee x20!! I told him he wasn't so he got £700 out his pocket and paid for all the tickets. I reckon he knew he wasn't on
Jon1973 Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 When I was younger (mid 80's), my Uncle ( who I think taught him), asked him to get a signed squad poster for me ( I'm the only red in an extended family of bitters), which he organised and was duly placed with pride and joy on my wall. In an argument my younger brother thought he would be big and hard and ripped it off the wall into pieces.... 20 odd years later I still hold a grudge..
David Hodgson Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Broken zip? Yeah. She didn't take it well, although I could tell she was quietly impressed.
Chili Palmer Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 When I was 10 or 11 we were on holiday in Spain and he was staying in the same resort as us. As soon as I saw him I was away changed into my full yellow Liverpool kit (why I had the big socks and all with me in spain f*** knows!) the proceeded to stand and stare at him sun bathing and playing with his kid, he eventually took pity on me and came over, played football with me for a bit then bought me an ice lolly. He'd probably get arrested for that these days...

Boca Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I met the legend that is Richie Partridge on holiday in Crete back in 1999. Top that!
smithdown Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 I met the legend that is Richie Partridge on holiday in Crete back in 1999. Top that! I saw Howard Gayle twice last week by the Adelphi. I let on the first occasion (just thinking 'I think I might know you') and the second time, after I'd realised who it was, he let on to me. That was about it.
Spike Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 In years to come, will Jay's BMX adventures go into similar folklore as this Sammy Lee thread? I hope so
Nathan Explosion Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Yeah. She didn't take it well... Lube.
Bologna Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 It was June 1978, my last year of primary school. It was announced that Bob Paisley and a member of the Liverpool team were going to open the school summer fair. I took along my programme from the 1978 European Cup Final thinking I was on to a dead cert autograph winner. Bob didn't show up but the LFC player did; it was none other than Sammy Lee. All and sundry were muttering "Sammy who?" No-one, including all parents, had ever heard of him. I didn't even bother to ask for an autograph. Ah well; at least I have the pleasure of sharing this anecdote.
Raj Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Met Sammy, Robbie Fowler and McManaman in a bar on Albert Dock around 98/99.He was drinking s*** brandy, but was a lovely fella and bought me and my mate a drink.
