In amongst all the negativity on here about which of our top players will still be with us come the start of the season, it's f***ing great to see Dirk having such an excellent World Cup.

One of Rafa's best signings. He has games where he really is gruesomely bad, but overall he's a fantastic man to have in your squad.

Started every game for the Dutch in these finals - played virtually every minute. Solid game again tonight, typical contribution - an assist and a last minute goal-saving block. Tactically very aware.

Interesting how the Dutch have used him a lot on the left of the 3. He's looked to have good end product cutting back on his right. Given pace is not his strength in a way the left side perhaps works better for him than wide right.

Anyway, now we know we'll have a player playing in the World Cup Final. Well in Dirk.

He's going to need a long rest though before he comes back next season

The further our club falls, the greater the legend of Dirk.

I love Dirk, I really do, but he is a player that could be used more sparingly. There are some games he is not needed for and there are sometimes in the season when he needs a rest.

However, I think I will be clinging to the legend of Dirk next season as we will have fewer profile players.

I understand this will come across as a cuntish post buts not, simply a worker like Kuyt should compliment a top class team with classy players rather than being the star player himself ...... or something.

EDIT

Just read my post and it does come across cuntish and I want to say well done lad !

Been thinking exactly the same. As Babel always looked more useful on the right I never understood why Rafa did not try Dirk on the left to accommodate Babel. Hope Dirk stays at Anfield.

I'm not sure if I'd wear shoes just to accommodate Ryan Babel.

That is a fair point - Dirk is never going to be the classiest player, nor the most creative, although that side of his game is underrated. It helps massively that with Holland he has Robben on the other flank - fast and skilful.

If we can just add one quality player into the mix in the front 6, I think we will get more from Dirk.

Babel isn't good enough in my view. I just think it could open the options if Kuyt is seen as a possibility on the left of a 3. We may be able to look at someone for wide right, rather than wide left, though I know Jovanovic plays more on the left

have a guess at Roger Hunt

that's what I thought

Didi was the last one to play in the final

if spain go through we will have 4 players involved

arsenal will have 2, chelsea none, and united might have one

I think last liverpool player to play in a world cup final must have been... Didi?

can't remember a Liverpool player winning it.

EDIT - Roger Hunt of course

Don't think it was c*** at all, you got it pretty much spot on. Dirk is a lad that can be trusted to give his all and carry out instructions, which every team needs, but too often we'd set up without the right balance.

Thanks, feel less cuntish now.

Absolutely delighted for Dirk and for the dutch. Had a great time watching the QFs over there, might go back over for the final! Would love to see Dirk win the world cup. Im cheering the cloggies on in the final, sorry fernando (if you get there).

Whilst Kuyt didn't have his best of seasons for us, I think it's still worth pointing out that there was a period where he was the only one scoring any goals for us.
