I know it's slightly belated, but I think it's worth recognising Fernando's achievement in scoring his 50th goal for Liverpool on Sunday in only his 84th game for us

Faster than Aldridge, Dalglish, Fowler, Owen or Rush

& especially impressive given his hasn't been fully match fit in quite a few (I'd guess about 10?) of his 84 games

Can't choose between Marseille or Blackburn this season for my favourite

How the 50 were scored

Right-foot: 34

Left-foot: 5

Header: 11

Inside box: 45

Outside box: 5

Barclays Premier League: 39

Champions League: 7

FA Cup: 1

League Cup: 3

l Nino netted Liverpool's second goal with a trademark finish

I still dont know what his trademark finish is. He can finish near post, far post or chip the keeper from any goalscoring position.

11 headed goals out of 50 considering that he's sometimes the only player in the box is astonishing.

His very first for us, against Chelsea, is still my favourite. The almost imperceptible change of gear that took him past Ben Haim was breathtaking. We are so lucky to have him.

I read somewhere that this season he has scored 14 league goals in just 20 starts.

That's incredible!!!

It frustrates me how close we got this season without a fully fit Torres all season.

I think his trademark finish is the 'slide' into the corner of the net. Normally accompanied by a turning a defender inside out at pace. See Ben Haim Chelsea or Dawson Tottenham for an example.

My favorite is the one against Newcastle, the way he drops his shoulder and puts Given on the deck without touching the ball. Insane.

Completely

Especially considering Given wasn't even on the pitch at the time :bleh:

mine too. Love the hat trick against West Ham? where he hits in on the volley from the edge of the box, then heads it delicately into the top corner and finally his trademark slow down and shuffle. The one away against Derby where he just wanders into the box, puts Moore on his a*** just totally takes the piss, love that as well.

I'll take Arsenal at home in the champions league last season as my favourite torres goal.

Though Marseille away last season was awesome when the defender was appealing for offside or something after being totally skinned.

I'm still wondering what the f*** that was all about. Surely someone must have asked the defender in an official interview published somewhere?

Remarkable how many great but completely different goals he has scored. vs Blackburn, Marseille, Inter, Newcastle - 4 stunning goals each brilliant, requiring very different skills and perfect execution.

I love that too

The defender turns, sees Torres going on through, knows he is unstoppable & the only other similar experience in his frame of reference is when you turn & see a striker speeding through on goal having broken your offside trap, so he raised his arm & appealed

It was totally involuntary

He clearly wasn't thinking straight having been completely bamboozled & bewildered by Fernando

the blackburn goal is pretty unbelievable, but my favourite has to be him making Vidic look like a complete mincer before burying it past vds.

Can’t wait to see what he’s like after a few weeks rest as well.. he should have a cracking season.

Since his debut for us he’s played an average of a game every 6 ½ days – even with the injuries he’s carried and been out with. (83 games for us and 19 for Spain in 654 days) In that time he’s still maintained an average of one goal every 2 games (a goal every 1.6 games for us).

He’s not too shabby…

My favourite has to be the Old Trafford goal, not so much for how good a goal it was but for what it represented. Same old story, down one nil against one of the big four, only one previous goal at Old Trafford (O'Shea og 2004), we had no previous for hitting back against the big teams and the odds were truly against us. The turn on Ferdinand earlier in the game had shown what he was about, no-one had taken the piss out of the 'invincible' United defence and with that trickery he'd rocked Ferdinand/Vidic to the point where Fernando simply had to touch it past a collapsing Vidic to find himself one on one with Van der Sar.

And with that slight extra touch to create a better angle it allowed for an exquisite finish and a message to the Mancs. Gerrard's pace and power were the perfect attributes to take advantage of the fragile mental state of the United back four, forcing Evra into an uncharacteristic rash challenge and overtaking Vidic in the FW player of the season running in one swift wrestle to the floor. Just as you can point at Macheda's late goal against Villa as the turning point for United pushing on to win the league, had 86 points been enough we would have looked back at Torres' goal at Old Trafford as our defining moment. Given our horrible recent record against them we can look forward to next season's visit to Manchester with optimism; Ferdinand and Vidic won't want to be facing Gerrard/Torres again, there are more benefits to be reaped from that goal.
