Dule Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Gerrard? Alonso? Kuyt? Those are really the only 2 I can think of who will realistically have a chance to beat Gerrard to the gong..
CarraLegend Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 (edited) Should be Gerrard but might be Alonso as he has improved and played great all year, but Gerrard is just Gerrard and 9/10 performances are expected. Edited May 18, 2009 by CarraLegend
Benitez Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Gerrard, but Alonso would be worthy as well. GerrardAlonsoDerek Kuyt in that order!
Kvarme Ate My Food Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Should be Gerrard but might be Alonso as he has improved and played great all year, but Gerrard is just Gerrard and 9/10 performances are expected. you're right, it should be Gerrard. Alonso has been great, but Gerrard has been immense.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Gerrard, but Alonso would be worthy as well. GerrardAlonsoDerek Kuyt in that order! Can't and won't disagree with that, they were my first 3 when saw the thread.
DJS Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Has to be Gerrard, he shouldnt suffer just because he's set huge standards for himself. Best goalscoring season ever, no doubt he should get it.
DJS Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Maybe if it was LFC player of 2009. Didnt do enough in the first half of the season.
CarraLegend Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Would Yossi be 4th then? Reina would be in my top 3.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Gerrard - the last 2-3 mo he's been on fireXabi - just shaded outDerek - 12 league goals this season, same as Rooney
Chili Palmer Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Would Yossi be 4th then? not for me. Alonso GerrardDirk Pepe
Falconhoof Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Gerrard for me, people take him for granted for some reason. biggest disapointment - Keane, Dossena, Degen or Babel ?
fyds Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 not for me. Alonso GerrardDirk Pepe That would be my top four too - but with Gerrard just pipping Alonso, Masch Pushing pepe.
MFletcher Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Gerrard for me, people take him for granted for some reason. biggest disapointment - Keane, Dossena, Degen or Babel ? Keane without question. Proven Premier League player, massive fee, almost unbelievably bad.
Snookie Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Gerrard for me, people take him for granted for some reason. biggest disapointment - Keane, Dossena, Degen or Babel ? Degan, is like some bad joke rather than a disappointment and Dossena was just the wrong player for the system we play. I still think his attitude throughout the season says a lot about his character which, to a degree, makes up for his footballing failings. The same can be said of Keane but in a completely different way. I wasnt disappointed about him because I never rated him but his attitude stunk. So for me it is Babel. He has the skill but neither the heart or footballing intelligence at the moment to be anything other than a disappointment. He's a shadow of the player who looked like he could possibly, maybe a player last season.

He's a shadow of the player who looked like he could possibly, maybe a player last season. Think I agree with all of that. The money we got back from Keane, and so swiftly, makes up for the disapointment somewhat. If you add that cash to what we should get for Babel then we can be in the market for a top class, proven forward. Apologies for taking the thread off track. Obviously we've had some outstanding contributions from our players all season. I think its notable that none of our defenders are being mentioned in the thread for player of the year candidates. There's room for them to improve next season.
John am Rhein Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 It#s been Gerrard's best season so he should get it. Although there should be a special award for Kuyt.
Jarg Armani Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Gerrard will win it quite rightly, although Alonso and Kuyt have never stopped. How good is Dirk's first touch now?? Deserves a thread of its own.
Hassony Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Reina would be in my top 3. If it wasn't for Pepe early in the season we would have been out of the CL and the league challenge before the end of September!
RedHarvest Posted May 18, 2009 Posted May 18, 2009 Alonso - been consistently quality, made us tick, a few more goals too.Gerrard - brilliant as usual, good goal return, lethal partnership with Torres.Reina - great presence, commanding, good distribution. Gerrard will win it.
