Just saw a report saying he's gone to hospital for a scan on his groin

reports that he was troubled with the groin being tight after the Fulham game aswell - he can rest in the summer though - we need him on Saturday at noon

you could tell he was injured last night, that's where our lack of depth is apparent. he probably shouldn't have played.

Aye, wang Barry in there and we'd have been better.

He's been complaining of a problem since the Fulham game where it was apparent he wasn't 100%, but it was Essien being the greatest ever footballer in the history of the galaxy that kept him quiet last night.

I know hindsight is a wonderful thing but i often wonder where we would be at this point of the season if we'd have signed Gaz Baz instead of Keane.

In all likelihood we have 8 games left this season:

11 Apr, 2009 Blackburn Rovers Barclays Premier League H 12:45

14 Apr, 2009 Chelsea Champions League Quarter Final A 19:45

21 Apr, 2009 Arsenal Barclays Premier League H 20:00

25 Apr, 2009 Hull City Barclays Premier League A 15:00

02 May, 2009 Newcastle United Barclays Premier League H 15:00

09 May, 2009 West Ham United Barclays Premier League A 15:00

16 May, 2009 West Brom Barclays Premier League A 15:00

24 May, 2009 Tottenham Hotspur Barclays Premier League H 16:00

I'd be inclined to play him on Saturday and then bench him for Tuesday so he has a full 10 days before his next start against Arsenal where he will be pivotal.

Essien is really f*cking good to be fair.

He can be as good as he likes, but Gerrard has not been 100% fit for the last two games and that will have detracted from his perfomance last night just as it did at the weekend.

Indeed. He has a similar impact to Keane in the mid-90s - great athleticism and aggression, no slouch technically either.

He's an incredible player.

And they are a top side, who last night played the way they used to for the first 2 years under Mourinho.

Cech, Terry, Cavalho (when fit), Essien, Lampard, Drogba: that's still some spine to a team.

That was the best I've seen them at Anfield. Better than their 4-1 win.

Still can't get over our board putting a stop to his transfer when Houllier had all but signed him.

Yanks out!! ;)

Hard to blame the board 100% after the fiasco vis-a-vis Diao and company though.

Yeah, as we said walking away last night, you forget sometimes that they've got loads and loads of boss players.

Some average as well. Was baffling watching Kalouda both playing well. It just never happens

If they didn't want to back him they should have fired him rather than let it play out like that.

A morph of both of their sh*te wide men?

Liverpool are assessing the fitness of captain Steven Gerrard after he was impeded by injury during Wednesday's 3-1 Champions League defeat by Chelsea.

The midfielder went off with an ankle injury during Saturday's loss at Fulham - but Reds boss Rafael Benitez said the 29-year-old's ankle was "OK".

Gerrard, who has had hamstring and groin problems this season, has been examined by Liverpool's medical staff.

"Steven was not 100% - he was not as mobile as normally," Benitez said.

"The injury he had on Saturday was not the problem, his ankle was OK. But we do not know how he is - we will see tomorrow."

Having struggled during the quarter-final first-leg loss at Anfield, Gerrard may miss two crucial games for the Premier League title contenders in the next week.

The Reds host Blackburn in the league on Saturday, while the return leg of the Champions League with Chelsea takes place on Tuesday.

Benitez's side are second in the Premier League, one point behind Manchester United who have a game in hand - whilst they face an uphill struggle to overcome a 3-1 deficit at Stamford Bridge next week.
