As far as I know it, UEFA use a 5yr period to assess a teams merits in order to seed them in pot 1,2,3 or 4 when it comes to the group stages.

Real have lost in the last 16 in each of the last 5 seasons.

Being very simple, a team that has qualified from the group stages in each of the past 5 seasons and qualified just once for the QF's should give them a better seeding than Madrid - using my simple logic.

Liverpool

Chelsea

Barcelona

Arsenal

and maybe Lyon ?

After that

Utd didnt qualify in 2006 but won it last year and made the semi's in 2007 which should give them more points

AC Milan were not in this year but in the final in 2005, semi's 2006 and winners in 2007 should give them more than Madrid

Porto ???????

Will they be in Pot 2 next year ?

No almost certain about it, they're out so their points can't go down. You don't lose any points either so none of the other teams will go down.

Unless some of the teams above them don't qualify for the Champions League next season.

quite a lovely thing seeing our name at the top of that list.

What a long way we have come in the past 5 years.

But Rafa hasn't even qualified for the UEFA Cup

Really is great this.

Pre-Rafa (start of 04/05 season)

1 Real Madrid 146.350

10 Liverpool 90.511

After Tuesday

1 Liverpool 117.343

13 Real Madrid 78.603

Rafa's cracking up

Also, just FYI, in 2000 we were ranked 37th! madness that.

*COUGH* Arsenal *COUGH*

Would need more than just Arsenal not to qualify. Judging by my estimations.

Liverpool

Barcelona

Chelsea

AC Milan

Manchester United

Bayern München

Olympique Lyon

Internazionale

are 8 that will probably all qualify for next year

even if one or two of them don't, they'd still need none of Villarreal, Seville, Arsenal or Werder Bremen to qualify.

they'll be easy 2nd seeds
