Molby Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Gack Williams just reminded me in the other thread what was that about (rhetorical question but anyway, anyone hear it and want to comment?)
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 I did think, I was in a bar, so wasn't confident I'd heard correctly
Ed the Wool Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 The Madrid fans were shouting 'Madrid!' in the same style. I think our fans did it in reply at one stage.
meredithmathieson Posted February 26, 2009 Posted February 26, 2009 Definitely got sung, once, in the ground. Not by everybody, but loud enough. Bit of a strange atmosphere before the game yesterday, I thought, with all the rumours flying round, and getting texts every two minutes from back home with 'updates'. Obviously, one of the big rumours was Dalglish to be caretaker manager for the rest of the season if Rafa resigns/was sacked.
jon_hall Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Sounded like "We'll Be Coming Down The Road" was sang at City lsst night. f*** knows why but sounded like it for about 10 seconds.
uncle bob Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 From good source Dalglish to be named Director of Football later today
Magic8Ball Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 From good source Dalglish to be named Director of Football later todayWhat's people's take on this if true ?
Kvarme Ate My Food Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Rafa probably wouldn't like it, but I think it makes perfect sense for him to report to a football man.
Falconhoof Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 I'd be very happy to see Dalglish back at Liverpool. Can only hope for the best about the working relationship that Rafa and Kenny would have. My gut feeling tells me they would form a good relationship but that might be wishful thinking.
RedHarvest Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 What's people's take on this if true ?Great if true...Kenny back at the club would be a great boon.
Chili Palmer Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 From good source Dalglish to be named Director of Football later today terrible idea, not the Dalglish back at the club in an official role bit (I would love that), the director of football post bit. imo Rafa would pack his bags if that happened.
RedHarvest Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 terrible idea, not the Dalglish back at the club in an official role bit (I would love that), the director of football post bit. imo Rafa would pack his bags if that happened. It's not the complete autonomy Rafa supposedly wants but it'd be a big improvement on the current set up.However, the more I think about it the less likely it seems - Parry's staying til the summer, no one knows how the ownership situation is goint to pan out.
Rimbeux Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 terrible idea, not the Dalglish back at the club in an official role bit (I would love that), the director of football post bit. imo Rafa would pack his bags if that happened. Unless he asked for one
Tommok Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Kenny involved in negotiating transfers - can't see Rafa liking that
uncle bob Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 terrible idea, not the Dalglish back at the club in an official role bit (I would love that), the director of football post bit. imo Rafa would pack his bags if that happened. I am not sure he would. It would make him look very petty to be so dismissive of a Liverpool legend and very decent man. He would at the very least have to give it a chance to work. I just now wonder how big a result that was for Rafa on wednesday. I now hoping Gillett out the door soon, believe he the most devious of the two owners but was punching out of his weight with Hicks
Chili Palmer Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Unless he asked for one I'd be surprised if that was the case, from what we know it doesn't sound like Rafa would want someone to answer to on football matters.
Rimbeux Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Kenny involved in negotiating transfers - can't see Rafa liking that Why? Somebody has to do it
quibs Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 (edited) Maybe Rafa has asked for director of football or Dalglish. Edited February 27, 2009 by quibs
DanielS Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Why? Somebody has to do it Because Dalglish's english is less penetrable than Rafa's. Especially to foreign ears.
Rimbeux Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 I'd be surprised if that was the case, from what we know it doesn't sound like Rafa would want someone to answer to on football matters. It's a question of responsibilities. There is no way one man can can run all aspects of the football business, first team, development and recruitment unaided. The role of sporting director or director of football is whatever you want it to be, it just seems to have been used over here as a foreign idea to make a fuss about and a way of pushing old manager upstairs or giving out jobs for the owners football mate.
Tommok Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Why? Somebody has to do it Depends on how Rafa gets on with Kenny I guess but I think it often works best if the person negotiating the contracts has as little involvement in choosing players as possible and just does the deals. Can't imagine Kenny not wanting to put his tuppence worth in on who we should sign.
Red Lecter Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 (edited) If the Dalish story is correct, then there' nothing to say it couldn't be set up to work like the Wenger-Dein relationship. Edited February 27, 2009 by Sanj77
Tommok Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 If the Dalish story is correct, then there' nothing to say it couldn't be set up to work like the Wenger-Dein relationship. Except Dein had virtually no involvement in picking players he left Wenger to do that. As I say above I just can't see Kenny being happy in a role where he doesn't have an input on which players are bought and I can't see Rafa being happy with the opposite scenario.

Can't imagine Kenny not wanting to put his tuppence worth in on who we should sign. I am sure it would but it all depends who has the final say. However would it be so bad that before a player is bought the merits of such a player and the managers intentions are discussed with a Director who has done it all, before a final decision is made.
smithdown Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Feck all that sh*te - the number 7 shirt is going spare "I'd walk a million miles..."
