Now we face our biggest test of the season. The Mancs appear to have come out of a slump where they played crap but still got points. They can now overtake us with their games in hand this week - Wigan (H) & Bolton (A). Everyone expects them to.

Then we play the s**** at ours on Monday. We know exactly how they're going to play. High-tempo, physical, double-up on everyone when we have the ball. They'd love to take points from us & strengthen the Mancs hand. After that, it's the same t***s, same place in the Cup. Then Wigan away on the 28th followed by Chelsea at ours on Feb 1.

After the Mancs play Bolton, it's WBA (A) and Everton (H) on 2/2.

I'd be f***ing chuffed to be within a couple of points of them after that game.

Chelsea should still have a say, Stoke & Boro both at home before they play us. And don't rule them out - Villa are only 5 points off the top - Sunderland & Pompey away and then Wigan at home.

The next 3 weeks are going to make or break us

I thought we might fall away when the pressure was really applied. The fact that Torres is yet to have any say in the season yet gives me some confidence.

I think if we get through the next few weeks intact we will have a shot.

If we're not within 5 points of United by the time we play them then we can forget it.

Torres is yet to score at Anfield this season. He has however scored 3 times in 2 games against Everton.

Hopefully this story reaches its natural conclusion.

Yep. Start with him and rip into them from the off.

He surely HAS to start! Was amazed he didnt at the weekend.

All still part of a great season.

It's times like this you wait for that make it worthwhile being a football fan.

You hope, you wish, you try and imagine - but here we are. It's still in our own hands - if we win every game til the end of the season - then we win the league. Simple as that.

What a brilliant position to be in mid January!

I for one am loving it.

I was really pissed off watching the Stoke game, and my mind immediately turned to hoping for a draw at Old Trafford.

Then i was in the shower and thought, "f*** it, if United win it cranks it up a notch."

Were not quite there as a team to be able to stroll to a title yet so it was always gonna be a difficult battle.

Plenty more twists and turns yet. More points will be dropped. Makes the Old Trafford game ridiculously huge as it stands.

It's all good!

Still rather United-Chelsea was a draw though!

Drawing away to Stoke playing the worst you have all year while you main rivals absolutely tonk the other title contender!

Its great being top, but Im struggling to be on top of the world this week!

We haven't even experienced that in f***ing years!

I can't wait for next week.

If that lot win their two games and we win the derby then the momentum kinda shifts back to us.

This is what a title race is about. One weekend we're a mile high and the next in despair.

There's just so much more football left and our run in from late March is a tad peachy.

We just have to stay there and keep it one game at a time.

The point is that usually by this point in the season - drawing away to Stoke doesn't really matter.

Exactly. We beat Everton and we'll be top next week no matter what the Mancs do.

This title won't be won with their games in hand. More points will be dropped.

:applause: Andy, that is truly wise. Worry ye not about worrying results; rather worry when worrying results worry you not.

We're top of the league, let's get behind the team.

Alternatively, lets stick on the various forums and slag the team off because Man Utd COULD overtake us at the top. I'd have taken this position in August personally.

True.

I actually think that its the spectre of the Mancs games in hand is what's driving people nuts and negative.

I wouldn't swap places with the mancs - points in the bag & all that

Deffo..

The amount of times I get shot down for that theory from our own fans is incredible.

Totally agree.

Rarely works out that way, were games in hand are concerned.

If they had their games in hand tonight they'd be a point in front of us. Hardly a disaster!

Torres: “United are the champions and the favourites because they have shown over the years they’re a very powerful team with great players and, if they win those two matches, they will be top of the league instead of us.”

“We know we must take our opportunities and that Old Trafford is waiting for us and then we also have to play Arsenal and Chelsea at home. We all have options and we will fight to the very end. Finishing top of the Premier League is a prize limited to a very few teams.

“The match at Old Trafford can be decisive so we hope that we can take advantage at a ground which has not always beeen lucky for us.

“We all know what United are about. They’re champions of England, Europe and the world and we do respect them. We know we’ll be struggling to keep up with them or keep ahead of them when it comes to the final matches of the season.”
