Steve Gerrard's comments about Pepe Reina

I still don't think Pepe gets the recognition he deserves.

So really nice to read this by Steven Gerrard on the Offish site, in an article about his top 5 teammates:

"Pepe is the best goalkeeper I have played with by a country mile. He is one of the top three in the world at the moment and certainly one of the best players I have ever been in a team alongside. He's a great character around the place. If we're successful in the future then he will have a big part to play and I'd say he's a candidate to be the next captain of Liverpool after me"

"Gerrard in Carragher and Mascherano snub"

Both players are looking to move in January following their latest snub by the Liverpool captain, the Daily Mail can report.

In an unpresedented outburst Gerrard described Liverpool's calamity stricken goalkeeper as Liverpool's next captain in waiting. The news is sure to further strain relations in Liverpool's already divided dressing room. With Benitez unable to hang onto any of his players it could be that only Gerrard and Reina will be left after the January transfer window.

Well Gerrard is already deciding who the next captain is, so he is probably eyeing a january move, maybe to a club that will allow him to join up with the national team

so that leaves only Pepe

I can recall a certain spanish poster singing his praises when we signed him.

So whoever says "I told you so" will be unmasked as the "Southport bin-man"

Having a GK as a captain is a stupid idea, regardless of who he is.

It's not something we'll have to worry about for a good 5/6 years at least anyway.

Do we currently have a player who gets the armband after Gerrard, Carra and Sami? Seeing as Sami's not really playing much we must have another choice incase Carra and Gerrard are off at the same time?

Xabi should walk into the role imo

Absolutely. The way he handled Carra's outburst for kicking out the ball for Aurélio the other day was great. Didn't blow his top and ended up giving Carra an encouraging pat on the bum as he stormed off in the wrong. 21st century Alpha.

Xabi has taken captained us in the past hasn't he?

Well, well, well. It looks like the king of post corrections has made a mistake. ;)

(I don't think he's captained us in a non-reserve match)

I have been making a habit of this lately

He's only talking up Pepe's price for January.

'Liverpool's crisis hit squad could face the new year fixture list with manager Rafa Benitez playing in goal and assistant manager Sammy Lee playing all 10 outfield positions. Although this same line up was good enough to beat Arsenal 4-0 in the Christmas fixtures, it's understood that want-away reserve team coach Gary Ablett is upset at his lack of first team action the Daily mental can exclusively report.'

torres would be higher up my list if he wasnt a striker

I can only presume Gerrard feels he will outlast Carra, which is why he never said him

i don't think we can look too much into this comment anyway. He is just saying Pepe is boss

Who cares? All the captain does these days is call "heads" or "tails" before kick-off. Being awarded the captaincy is just a device to massage the delicate ego of certain players - our Stevie being a classic example when his head was being turned.

Anyway, any player who needs someone to motivate him, cajole him, gee him up etc on the pitch really shouldn't be playing at the highest level in the first place, so whoever the captain happens to be should be irrelevant to any half-decent player in any team
