Henchoz retires

Just read that he has officially hung up his boots. Aged 34, been without a club since the summer. YNWA Stephane. Often underrated in the H&H partnership and a key player in restoring respectability to our defence.

what did he cost the club? great defender with hyypia. although he always looked like he'd run a marathon inside of anfield before playing the matches, he looked exhausted after 2 minutes

Don't think he was that good a player, but his partnership with Hyypia was absolutely essential to our side. As of course, was his goalkeeping skill.

Thought he was a very good CB. Loved the fact that he always looked absolutely exhausted when playing, even if it was just 5 minutes into the game.

I loved him. Not quick by most standards, not great in his distribution - but his positional sense and timing were fantastic. I'll bet Carra learned a lot watching him.

His last-ditch crunching tackle is the best I've seen and always in my memories (the one against Rooney during Everton game).
