something special in the air this season...

After a poor first half defensive performance, we were friggin fantastic 2nd half...even before city had a man sent off...

I still think rafa made a mistake breaking up the formation that has been so succseful this season..still our resliance is unbelievable..we`ve come bk from being a goal down agaisnt the mancs, boro,marseille...and now after being 2 down!!

Oh and a special word for Riera who i thought had his best game for us so far today..

and can people please stop with anymore abuse for Master Kuyt....who continued his excellent form this season with our match winning goal!! getttin

Its a cliche.....but...its on!!!

We're playing well enough but there are only 7 games gone.

Which means there are 31 to go.

And that's aside from the folly of sending out a vellum, gold filigree, 1st class RSVP invitation to the mockers with thsi kind of thread starting.

Just feeling more positive after 7 games than I have for a few seasons. Feel that the result will be fantastic for team spirit and that other teams will now be even more wary of us knowing we've come back in a few games now

I'm not ready yet to say it outloud or type it. But I'm thinking it a bit louder than I was.

Maybe the 8 ball should be brought out of retirement if we're within 3 points at the turn of the year?

surprised we have not seen it before, but its a hell of a lot better then the usual negative schite.

We were in the same situation last year, and then the international break came along...

it's not really like last year though in truth is it?

This is the 2nd international break of the season, not the 1st

We've played nearly twice as many games as well, with a large % of them being very difficult fixtures

If we can survive defeat against Chelsea, there's no reason why we can't keep this unbeaten run going till at least mid december, the forthcoming games are certainly a lot less hard on paper than some of the ones just gone.

The only games I seriously worry about are United and Chelsea away, and they'll be by no means as forgone a conclusion as in previous years, i.e. where we've had no chance of winning in the past, we now can go into them realistically thinking we have a chance.

Far too early to say it. Keep heads down and keep on working.

Indeed at this stage last season we had 15pts on the board, so we've had a very similar start points and table wise. Today was a great win but we still got to be cautious, I will not fully believe that we have a shot at the title until we are in the mix come the New Year.

Our fixtures have been harder this year

Very True.

At this stage last season Rafa had already "thrown away our season" by resting Torres against Portsmouth, and we'd just drawn with Birmingham. It is still early days for us of course, but we've been playing really efficiently this season without ever being great. It's a horrible cliché, but we're winning games we wouldn't have last season. As I said already when things click for us (and I'm assuming they will) we'll be some force.

Also, as Chili Palmer has said our fixtures have been a lot harder this season. United, Everton and Man City all in the first 7 games and we came away with 9 points. A sign of our progression I think. Beat Chelsea and it's game on. Even a point would be a fantastic result.

Sunday 26th October 2008

Our response to the Chelsea game will be decisive. Even if we lose I hope we carry on winning and don't let the result get our confidence down.

Once we get October 26th out the way we'll see if we're genuine contenders...IMO any of the top four can win it this year.

Despite having tonnes of injuries and a poor start by their standards, the mancs are three points behind us (ok 6 but with a game in hand). Arsenal lost at home to Hull and drew with Sunderland and they are up there. A long, long way to go and we need some teams to take points from Chelsea. Lose or draw against Wigan this weekend and we'll undo the good work. Concentration is key...marathon not a sprint etc etc

Completely agree but there's some seriously promising stuff that we're showing now, that we were lacking in the past.

1) Comebackability - to quote well whichever idiot it was who decided this was a word. For a long long time we've had difficulty coming from behind in the premiership. No longer the case

2) We're moving through the gears and have, despite not playing the best football in some games, come out with the 3 pts.

3) Serious bench strength. The number of game-changers on our bench today was amazing. To be able to draw on Robbie Keane, Ryan Babel and Yossi to change a game is just unreal. Not to mention guys like Dossena, Pennant, Agger, Hyypia. The squad holds its own with Chelsea's.

Im absolutely confident that if we keep a margin of 3 puts on our rivals, even if we are 4th but 3 points behind the top, then this could be our year. Its no conincidence that we play better in the second half of our season. When our trainings are based more around team play, execution, and not so much fitness.

You just invented it, so I think you're insulting yourself :)

Iain Dowie invented "bouncebackability" but that's something else entirely
