Montse Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Now this could get interesting........ Beeb Sheffield United chairman Kevin McCabe has told BBC Radio 5 Live that an independent tribunal has ruled against West Ham over the Carlos Tevez affair. McCabe said it would be "inappropriate" to discuss figures of compensation despite reports claiming the Hammers could be forced to pay £30m. West Ham were found guilty of breaching league regulations in the signing of Tevez and Javier Mascherano in 2006. The Hammers survived in the Premier League in 2007 at the Blades' expense. Rather than being docked points by the three-man Premier League arbitration panel, West Ham were fined £5.5m and went on to survive the drop on the final day, while United were relegated. Having failed in their attempt to have the original punishment overturned, the Yorkshire outfit sought monetary recognition. A West Ham spokesperson told BBC Radio 4:"We need to digest the full findings of the arbitration panel and will consult our lawyers on the next steps we might take before making any further comment." On the subject of compensation McCabe has previously said: "If you say that the Championship play-off game is worth £60m and Sheffield United's attendance last year was 31,000, with full hospitality boxes and restaurants and broadcasting income, you would say compensation is around £50m." More to follow.
Kahnee Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 West Ham will fight this for as long as possible
Hassony Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Why should West ham be the ones who pay this, shouldn't it be the premier league for making the wrong decision?
Kahnee Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Why should West ham be the ones who pay this, shouldn't it be the premier league for making the wrong decision? Would make sense, but since when has the PL ever admitted liability for anything?
johngibo YPC Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Can't imagine Warnock will have much to say on this.....
Hassony Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 Can't imagine Warnock will have much to say on this..... will probably blame Rafa for the original decision
muleskinner Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 From BBC Neil Warnock, who was manager of the Blades during the 2006/7 season and is now at Crystal Palace, told BBC Sport: "It's justice eventually. Thankfully it has gone to an independent tribunal, they've listened to all the facts and the truth has finally come out."
stressederic Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 I must say it's heartwarming to see Palace doing so well under Warnock.
Sir Tokyo Sexwale Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 I reckon the Mancs should have to pay the fine and be docked 27 points like Luton
surf Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 how dare they lose at home to a team fighting for relegation. they should be made to trade places with sheffield united. literally.
R A Softlad Posted September 23, 2008 Posted September 23, 2008 I reckon the Mancs should have to pay the fine and be docked 27 points like Luton
Extraordinary Swindle Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 Why should West ham be the ones who pay this, shouldn't it be the premier league for making the wrong decision? That's not going to happen because the Premier League is a company in which each of the 20 clubs in the league is a share holder. No way are the clubs who weren't involved going to fore go some moolah to compensate Sheffield United.
Rimbeux Posted September 24, 2008 Posted September 24, 2008 (edited) This was a c**k up and cover up from the start with the PLs three man bottling their duty with the £5.5m fine, the PL botching the regulations again by allowing Tevez to be re-registered and continue playing on the basis West Ham tore up their agreements with MSI, effectively stealing the player, all compounding their failure to properly scrutinise the original deal. There was no way West Ham should have been allowed to play Tevez after this came to light and after the shabby attempts to fix the issues. The big stink that it was became even clearer when Tevez moved on from West Ham, whom were supposed to own him according to them and the PL, with all manner of negotiations and deals going on as high as FIFA and ending with £2m going West Ham's way, all trying to prop up the corrupt decision to allow him to remain playing at West Ham. I think this comes down to the unregulated giant that the PL has become, consistently failing to evenly or properly enforce their own regulations in the face of commercial pressure with the consistent message that given enough money and clout you can do what the f*** you like. No sympathy for West Ham, they broke the rules, covered it up, botched the rules again and covered it up, but the PL should be lined up with them for offering them corrupt guidance.
