Guest Snorky Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 ...think it was a wasted effort only to jump up and down seconds later ?

honourablegeorge Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Imagine my surprise when I came downstairs after putting the kids to bed to discover that it was 2-1.
Bogman Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 was surprised it went in to be honest, thought it had gone well wide. no one else can do that.
Rory Fitzgerald Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Any Irish reds listen to Today FM this morning when Paul Collins (sports news presenter) described the goal to Ian Dempsey (DJ) ? PC: That was some goal, he must really be worth something on the global transfer market. ID: How far out was he. PC: Umm, eh, about 20 yards - the keeper had no idea ID: Was it a free kick PC: Ehh, no, he controlled it and then hit a volley into the top corner Anyone got a link to that goal on YouTube cause I only saw the one where he wrapped his foot around a ball rolled back to him.
Stevie H Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 it was almost behind him when he hit it, it was some bloody amazing strike. great vision to know where the 'keeper was too as mandanda's no mug. gets better each time you watch it too. world class.

I actually sent a text into Today FM to get the idiot taken off the sports news, he hasnt a clue about football. He thinks he can disguise his lack of knowledge on GAA by saying bainisteoir as much as possible, tool!
Falconhoof Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 Didn't really register until it was in the back of the net. It looked like the ball from Kuyt had gone behind him so I was expecting him to take a touch and pass it. Never expected a strike from the pass he was given.
gkmacca Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 He scored a very similar goal a couple of years ago.
Ronnie Whelan Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 I laughed out loud at how outrageous it was. A really great goal.
Cobs Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 He scored a very similar goal a couple of years ago. Luton - FA Cup ?
Barnes' left foot Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 He scored a very similar goal a couple of years ago. That's right. It was the 5-3 game against Luton in the FA Cup.
Mike Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 I laughed out loud at how outrageous it was. A really great goal. me too
Tosh Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 I thought it was wide to the keepers left, more so given the crappy pass from Kuyt Imagine my surprise when the replay showed it was in the other corner
jimmylibel Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 I thought he'd sliced it after a bad pass from Kuyt
Ronnie Whelan Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 i thought "ffs, don't shoot there". Will you ever learn? Steve Gerrard can score from where ever he wants.
Woodsyla Posted September 17, 2008 Posted September 17, 2008 I thought it was wide to the keepers left, more so given the crappy pass from Kuyt Imagine my surprise when the replay showed it was in the other corner I thought the same, I assumed it had hit the inside of post and shot across to the other side. The keeper would have saved it otherwise. Watching it back the keeper's positioning was interesting, because Gerrard had had that shot a couple of minutes earlier he had positioned himself on the near post, this gave Gerrard the opportunity to lift it over him into the far corner. Had the keeper been correctly positioned he probably wouldn't have got it over him. So not only was it a fantastic bit of skill, but also terrific awareness to see that the keeper was slightly further over. It was just Gerrard really summed up in a second of skill. Fantastic technique and vision all executed in one movement.
