The double save Coupet makes is hard to beat. It's out of this world.

Dudek/Shevchenko, Istanbul

There's no competition anymore; that's it. An impossible save that could never be repeated... except for 0.5 seconds later.

Taken by itself it simply can't be surpassed - it was in; a goal. But add the occasion, the timing, the greatest striker in the world, the comeback etc etc etc and it all adds up to one of the greatest moments in sports history.

The best save i've seen was Seaman from Paul Peschisolido's header in the FA Cup Semi Final. Scooped it away from goal after his body was going in the other direction. Awesome.

I know it was a good save but that - Paul Peschisolido's header - is not an endorsement.

its probably equal to the banks save, but one from pele other one was Peschisolido

the banks save is well over rated because of that

Little known but in the Italy vs Brazil game of Espana 82 where Eder's absolute rocket of a free kick cannons off the crossbar, if you play the scene in slow motion, you can see that Dino Zoff actually tips it on there.

Unbelievable save.

I hate it when saves are called 'reflex saves', is there really any other kind of save?

When it hits the keeper through no action of his own? That's due simply to positioning.

How would that work? the keeper stands perfectly still in a position and the ball gets hit against him? how often does that ever happen?

You must have seen it? When the keeper just happens to be in the right place?

Buffon from a Inzaghi header in the CL final in 02/03 was something special as well.

That's Brazil v Argentina isn't it? Where Zico follows up.

anyone remember Clemence making a save in the England v Scotland game (must have been around '79) from a header from Gordon McQueen (i think)? It took a deflection and he was moving one way before twisting in the air and flicking it over the bar with his other hand. Amazing save. It was on the title sequence for Grandstand for a fair while. I can't find it on youtube though.

Banks v Pele is still No. 1 for me. Great goalkeeping, speed across his line, agility and strength to knock it up and over the bar. The fact it was from the best player in the World rather Paul Peschisolido doesn't make it over-rated. It helps makes it the best. It was a terrific header from Pele.

btw - that Coupet save - why does he use his head and not his hands on the 1st one?
