What can we achieve under the current impasse?

I know there's a thread about the Takeover and there's one about the transfers and there's onbe about United taking over from us in the not too distant future....but taking all these together what can we possibly achieve if nothing changes at the helm of our club? What if scum buy Alves and Lahm and Chelsea do their usual round of shopping in the 15-20 million bracket... what if we're left to compete for scraps and pick up bargain buys that may or may not come good whilst Spurs go in for Eto (ok...so I know its clutching at straws to drag the 'potential' of Spurs into the argument...but under new management...who knows!)

We seem to be so close and yet in our current set-up with warring owners, stadium undevelopment etc etc etc what can we possibly hope for? If things don't change I reckon a scrap for 4th is the most we can shoot for next season... whst sticks in the throat is just how good the spine is of our side right now and it could really do something...but not under the current uncertainty

Feeling depressed...anyone think we can fare any better?

i suppose it's what this current impasse achieves with regards to signings this summer that will answer that question.. at the beginning of every single season my heart tells me we're going to win the league.. my head will say different..

this season (just gone) i had no other expectation than top four BUT i hoped to see progress on the pitch.. in my opinion we achieved that - we played some great football at times, i feel the core of the side is there now and with a bit of tweaking we can make more progress next season.. the off-field antics have been nothing short of disgraceful - i can't believe we're in this position.. i suppose - regardless of what's been going on - we should be thankful Rafa's still managed to get some decent players in (at a decent whack too).. if he gets good backing to get some decent players in the vital positions then hopefully we can kick on..

can we challenge for the league? yes.. can we win it? not sure - maybe we'll need another season to get that edge, maybe the signings this summer will take us to another level.. as i say i suppose it's what the situation at board level manages to achieve over the coming months..

I think this is the closest we have been, in decades, to having what I would consider a world class team and it would be a disaster if this opportunity was wasted/not seized upon. If an agreement to sell can be reached by the owners and or if they can at least bury the hatchet during this crucial time (summer transfer window) and back the manager and just as important Rafa gets it right with his signings we could be set for a few years, regardless of what goes on off the field (in the shorterm).

Fourth place at best.

Degen is a f***ing joke and I've seen him play on countless occasions.

You're so obviously on a wind up. Everything you post is negative. You're not even creative with it.

I dont think we'll finish higher than 4th next season either. I think that the experience the Arsenal team gained this season by having a title challenge will hold them in good stead, and i think we are a bit behind Chelsea and the Mancs, and unless we seem a dramatic change in ourtransfer policy, i can't see us challenging

I'm not sure. Arsenal went from 4th to challenging for the league in one season. I think there are signs of improvement and players like Babel will have more experience of the Premier League.

Flamini has already left Arsenal, Hleb may follow. Lampard, Carvalho and Drogba may be leaving Chelsea, Ronaldo might even leave the Mancs. Too early to judge really but I don't think its clear cut at this stage that the others are better than us and will get better while we stand still.

if the rumours are true and it's people like Milner, Riera and the like that are coming in as our main transfers this summer, we have no chance of challenging next season, unfortunately. IMO of course.

we have a great spine. it's a few signings of real quality that we need to make.

Does our seasons extra experience for a good number of the players not hold us in good stead too? Torres, Skrtel, Mascherano, Babel all have more of an idea of what goes on in this league and what is required to succeed. Agger is coming back into the side too. Lots of positives there. Plus some new players coming in and lets not forget Riise is on his way.

Let's wait and see. And Wayne - don't forget Arsenal have lost Flamini and Hleb and that's just so far..

Despite all the doom, we were not all that far away this year. Let's see who he gets and more importantly, how they gel with the rest and the systems played.

As for 'Degen is sh*t' I remember being a fairly if not entirely lone voice being pleased we'd signed Skrtel when so many thought he must be sh*t as he didn't cost a fortune and they hadn't heard much if anything of him. Give Degen a chance.

I find it interesting that Doug Ellis had long negotiations with George Gillett before selling out to Randy Lerner. However, Ellis turned Gillett down because he would only sell to someone who put his cash on the table rather than borrowing and leaving the club with massive debts as in our case. Have you noticed that, messrs Parry and Moores?

i saw doug ellis in that interview and he never actually said that (he did say that gillet was a good man though), and he was also being wise after the fact. it was also probably 5 months ago.

since when doug ellis' word was respected is another matter like...

Thanks for that- I was beginning to think I was remembering that wrong or something.

why are people still thinking about failure? chelsea in recent seasons have bought Ferriera, tal Hiem (sp?), johnson, Belletti, and played Geremi, Essien and a few others in the right back spot, there is no guarantee that their latest signing will work either.

Also, Rafa is looking at new full backs, a wide player and a striker. Does anyone have any objections to that?

We will be addressing the weakest parts of the squad if we get 4 players for those positions and move on a few on the extras we have.

they may not walk into many other teams, but then would wes brown, park, Saha, Toure, Flamini, Adebayour, Sendoros, walk into ours?

no squad will have a world class first 11.

we finished clear 4th with no full backs and no real wingers. If we get even better than average players in 3 of those positions and 1 top player, we will move forward.
