jimmylibel
City snap up Brazilian striker Agreement for 21-year-old striker shows Sven-Goran Eriksson is planning for next season Paul DoyleMonday April 21, 2008guardian.co.uk Thaksin Shinawatra last week insisted that Manchester City need more midfielders but today his club strengthened its strikeforce by agreeing a £20m deal for Brazilian forward Jô, guardian.co.uk understands. The 21-year-old has just begun his second season with CSKA Moscow, scoring twice in five appearances so far this campaign. He has been the subject of rave reviews since arriving in Russia from Corinthians in 2006 and reportedly became a target for Arsenal after netting 10 times in his first 12 matches in Europe. Jô's first season was interrupted by injury, but he returned after many months absence and quickly rediscovered his form, hitting enough goals to make him joint top scorer in the league with Spartak's Roman Pavlyuchenko, the striker whose two goals undid England in Moscow last year.At 6ft 2in, Jô is a powerful aerial presence but his main qualities are his speed and technique. He has already been capped once by Brazil and the national team manager Dunga has told the player that if the Home Office does not grant him a work permit he will send a letter to assist with the inevitable appeal. Guardian Actually it seems its a "£20 million deal" so that probably includes wages
R A Softlad
Interesting - that's not a bad strike rate.
Maldini
That's an insane amount of money, he's not worth half that.
Bailo
Bizarrely, my Man City team of 2006/2007 disagree. Led me to the title did Jo.
Old red eyes
Think his team mate and fellow Brazilian Wagner Love is the better of the two. Only seen them play in Europe like.

sutty
Good siging, if only for the potential to do a "Hey Jo" song.

Clay Davis
Looked decent enough in the games i've seen him in.He's decent - but nothing more. Not seen much of Jo - but I know people who've seen them both and say Jo is miles better.
Gary Wolf
I agree Wagner is better, but he's older than Jo. BTW the fact that Wagner's playing for Brazil being the striker of a second rate club (under Europian standards) speaks for itself. They have never had any lack of first class forwards. jimmylibel
Mad signing for that money. Dani Carvalho is better. A lot of rumours that he is still available this summer for a knockdown fee. Wouldn't surprise me to see him end up here.

Gary Wolf
A lot of rumours that he is still available this summer for a knockdown fee. Wouldn't surprise me to see him end up here.Carvalho had an outstanding season two years ago. Was called Russian player of the year after winning UEFA Cup and the League title. Then there was an ordinary injury, but something happened to him. As if he had no wish to go on. After his recovery returned from Brazil with a paunch. This season he's not the player of the first 11 any more, though fit.As to the players from the Russian league, there's only one which is sure to have capacities to perform brilliantly in England. That is Arshavin from Zenith. He's quite able to solve our winger problem BTW. All the others are dubious.

Clay Davis
Its crazy how many Brazilians are going to Russia and Ukraine (Shakhtar) and its crazy how many of them are supposed to be really good. Elano and Matuzalem both left Shakhtar in the Summer and they have replacements with Ilsinho, Willian and others whose names escape me. Pretty sure theres one called 'Mozart' who plays for a Moscow team, too.
Hassony
Is there a league in the world that has no Brazilians in it?
goodrobotusses
No idea if Jo is any good, but Eriksson's record with signing strikers at City so far has been pretty darn patchy. Bojinov getting injured was pretty unlucky, granted, but none of Bianchi, Benjani, Caceido (sp?) or Castillo have exactly been awe-inspiring thus far.
