Celtic are set to swoop for Liverpool winger Harry Kewell.

The People says the 29-year old Australian is heading for Glasgow, with Liverpool calling time on his injury-blighted five-year stay on Merseyside.

Celtic boss Gordon Strachan has been closely monitoring Kewell's situation. It is understood preliminary talks have taken place already and that the former Leeds star is prepared to move his family to Scotland. Strachan already boasts one Aussie star on his books in Scott McDonald, who has dominated the press and media coverage in his first season at Parkhead.

I would have thought he might fancy a move to the states instead with his wife taking hollywood by storm

Scholes is older than Kewell, was out for over a season and was Manc's player of the year last year. Class is class, I'd love to see him get properly fit and be here at the start of the season, we should keep him (obviously on a mch reduced contract).

I agree, particularly while we don't have anyone better to replace him.

Except Babel of course who plays in the same position. No point in keeping Kewell when we have a player as good as Babel for the same position. Offload Kewell as both Pennant and Benayoun can do a job left side. Then bring in a top class right sided player to 'replace' Kewell.

Scholes never relied on pace.

Kewell is past it I'm afraid. I had high hopes after some of his performances earlier in the season, but it's become clear over the past couple of months that he just doesn't have the legs anymore.

It's fair enough - this was his dream move - to play for the club he always supported...no-one asks to be injured the way he has been. Had luck been different it could have been Harry being the hero in Istanbul instead of Vladi.

Apart from him saying he'd have rather gone to Barcelona when he signed.

A sad statement on Harry's time at Liverpool that - he wishes he was Vlad.

Oh I dunno - fine goal and deciding penalty in a CL final - not many would baulk at that being the highlight of their career.

Pont taken, mind...

Bit of a stretch to claim it was the deciding penalty - surely that was Shevchenko's?

There is a difference though between out wide and in the middle when you are getting on in years. I cant see any reason to keep him. One area that needs improvement is our attack, which is now benefitting from a stable formation and class players in Gerrard and Torres. I think Babel will continue to improve playing in the system aswell. We need to invest in players that can fit in and have quality. I dont think that involves Kuyt, Kewell or Voronin and maybe Pennant. Benayoun is a good option to replace Gerrard in that position if Gerrard is out for a game or 2 via injury/suspension.

I think the club has been very patient with Kewell in allowing him to see out his contract without hardly any contribution from him. This season has shown he just doesn't have what it takes to play in the position he used to. I still think someone may change his role slightly and still get somnething out of him. For now I will be happy to see him off the payroll.

Still think he's the best left footed left sided player we have at the moment. Babel has been a fine performer...but he can hardly cross a ball in with his left....until a suitable replacement is found (maybe rafa has one in mind already??) kewell should be considered to be offered a new deal. Possibly a pay-per-play package. Its obvious he needs a large wage decrease from what he's on now.
