Why wasn't he at least given the last ten minutes upfront ?

We're a bit short of centre-backs at moment, it would have been madness to risk Sammi.

So why was he on the bench then ? What would have happened if Carra or Hobbs had of needed to come off ?

He was there in case of emergency. If one of the centre backs had needed to come off, then he would have been brought on - but there was no need to risk him in a Carling Cup tie when we have four games in eight days and Agger still injured.

If he did put Hyypia upfront there'd be 10s and 10s of "he's lost the plot" "what the f*** is he doing putting a slow defender upfront for?" type posts today.

Not to mention the fact that we all made fun of Jose relentlessly for it...

Because he's not even remotely a striker?

A better option than Crouch on the night then ?

I'm sure Benitez was thinking just that. Should I throw on Hyypia up front? No, better not, the internet posters and phone in jockeys will think I've lost the plot.

What's with the abuse?

Can't see nothing wrong with throwing a defender upfront for the final 10 minutes when we are trying to save the game.

It's not allowed due to 'style of football' rules. Tall players are only allowed in defence.
