Arbeloa - an excellent season so far...

wouldnt you say hes a far better left bk than right bk...believe we saw this last season too, he was fantastic when we saw in place of finnan, but when he switched to right bk (i believe the game at stamford bridge) he had a nightmare..

Thought he was poor yesterday and was beaten far too easily by a very average winger...

very similar to jamie carragher, it seems arbeloa is far better on his opposite side....and likely will be a future center bk and possible replacement for carra..

He`s had a great season so far, just hope finnan is back soon (is he injured at the mo?)....so we can see arbeloa return to his better position.

I agree, he seems to concentrate more at left back and his distribution is better. Strange decision to leave Finnan out yesterday as well.

He's only played a handful at right back though and I can only remember one game where he's been poor. He wasn't bad yesterday, got skinned once towards the end, but that was it.

well the handful of games i remember him playing poor last season, was as a right back..believe it started with chelsea away, then was another 3 or games after that..

...the games where he excelled..he was playing left bk!

This season hes been excellent, and our best defender as a left bk...switches to right bk yesterday and had a poor game.

by the way...but Carras distribution has been Riise-esque...hes never been the greatest, but this season his passing has been awful, gets the ball and hits it as high forward in the air to no one in particular.

Nothing to do with Arbeloa...just thought id add it in here though ;)

Arbeloa has done very well this season - It great to have someone like him in the squad - He's best a LB but I'm happy to see him play anywhere across the backline - He's playing well enough to take any of the other defenders positions so far

Did my head in on Saturday. Passed the ball all over the place and/or over the sidelines far too often. He looked like bamby on ice on a couple of occasions.

Aye, all the more baffling when you consider that Arbeloa's played every single game so far. It's not like he adds another dimension going forward compared to Finnan.

Al can do no wrong in my eyes

And he does top notch celebrating - see the goals at Reading again for the flying Spaniard...

def a better left back than right back, ive said as much before. he's certainly not a patch on finnan in that position.

I reckon rafa just wants to signal that Finnan doesn't own the spot.

I presumed he was just resting him ahead of Wednesday, though I think Finnan doesn't really need all that much resting but seems to be Rafa's way ...

Didn't Finnan pick up an injury on international duty? Might not be fit for a full 90 mins yet.

Lad on RAWK reckons his knee is still a bit stiff and sore.

For performances in relation to what I expected he's my player of the season. I think he is equally adept in both positions I just think people notice his mistakes more on the right because the benchmark is Finnan

that is one bizarre rationale.
