12twelve Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 http://football.guardian.co.uk/News_Story/0,,2144572,00.html Looks like Rafa has already got someone in mind...and somehow I've got a sneaky feeling that it's going to be Westerveld...
Nebraska Red Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Does this mean Rafa is willing to sell Carson if the right offer came along? "Villa can at least take satisfaction from completing a deal that looked highly unlikely earlier in the summer when Benitez was adamant that Carson would be remaining at the club to challenge Reina. The Liverpool manager appears to have reneged on that stance after the player made clear his dissatisfaction at starting the season on the sidelines. " from the article. I did not think Rafa would let this kind of attitude from a player affect his decisions.
BDB Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Will he be there quick enough to get the team lineup ? rafa's getting spies in!
Stevie H Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 that seems a bit daft unless he's to be villa's first choice. sorensen will be back soon.
cestrianred Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 I'd sell Carson now & get the money in.Pepe signed a 5 or 6 year contract and is going to be No 1 for years.Carson recognises that so cash in now when his contract is long & value highest.
McBain Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 I'd sell Carson now & get the money in.Pepe signed a 5 or 6 year contract and is going to be No 1 for years.Carson recognises that so cash in now when his contract is long & value highest. I'd sell also Rafa seems to be thinking that his value will only rise.. But prices could be at their highest now with the new tv deal, new owners and bonkers spending. The transfer market may well be topped out I doubt we're so flush now Rafa doesn't have to sell to buy so Carson is our best asset to raise funds
honourablegeorge Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 I'd much prefer Carson sold. Waste of tim ehaving a backup keeper that doesn't want to be here. I don't think he's all that good anyhow.
Gray - YPC Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 I've got a sneaky feeling we're going to sign Charles Itandje who is a keeper for Lens. Well... I say sneaky feeling... what i really mean is that he was seen at Anfield yesterday which is quite a big pointer.

Rigobert Song once said of Itandje during an interview for Canal+ "The man's got rhythm."

floyd Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Why wait to sell Carson next year, as with Gordon being sold for £9m and clubs being flush with new money, we hopefully could of sold him for £10-12m and this cash could of been used to purchase Rafa's target for the past 2 year, Alves.
Swagger Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 I'd sell also Rafa seems to be thinking that his value will only rise.. But prices could be at their highest now with the new tv deal, new owners and bonkers spending. The transfer market may well be topped out Agreed. Also, keepers seem to be a hot commodity at the moment, so fees are at a premium. Competition for places is essential, but considering Reina's age, unless he implodes there is very little chance of Carson taking over as no. 1.
Swagger Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 I've got a sneaky feeling we're going to sign Charles Itandje who is a keeper for Lens. Anyone seen him in action? Is he any good?
The Hitman Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 I liked Sander,I don't think he was as bad as people made out.
12twelve Posted August 9, 2007 Author Posted August 9, 2007 Anyone seen him in action? Is he any good? He's a VERY good keeper. I'd be amazed if he'd be willing to be backup here.
Puskas Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Why wait to sell Carson next year, as with Gordon being sold for £9m and clubs being flush with new money, we hopefully could of sold him for £10-12m and this cash could of been used to purchase Rafa's target for the past 2 year, Alves. Some 'news' services are claiming we told Man City that the asking price is £12m. So it looks like we would be prepared to sell him if a club matches that price.

We are clearly not interested in Alves, why do you think the only reason we are not signing him is down to a lack of money?
Swagger Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 We are clearly not interested in Alves, why do you think the only reason we are not signing him is down to a lack of money? Not necessarily that we are not interested, rather that Rafa's valuation is nowhere near Del Nido's. And rightly so.
Gerry Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 Some Villa site claiming the Carson loan deal will cost them £2.5M + wages. I guess that's not a bad deal for us if true.
nepeter Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 why not try to sell carson with a option to buy back for a low price. that way we can get him off the wages plus if there is a contingency later we can buy him back.
Mikey Posted August 9, 2007 Posted August 9, 2007 The Mirror has it as £2.5M for the year and Villa pay all his wages as well, don't see how we could possibly lose if it's true. I fully expect Villa to try and sign him in the January window for around £7-8M which would be fantastic business for us!
