Jezzman Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 (edited) .... a 'name' like Fernando Torres...? When Beckham moved to Real Madrid it was said that the merchandising opportunities were gigantic. Some said the transfer fee could be paid solely by money generated by sale of various merchandising in 2 years. How much more money, would you expect to generate from merchandising, signing a 'name' like Torres if you compare him to the likes of e.g. Diego Milito or Darren Bent? Edited June 27, 2007 by Jezzman
vish Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 I dunno. I hope we can win a few more football matches though.
The Hitman Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Not that much.As a point of hilarity,I saw an Igor Biscan shirt at Glastonbury this year.Never thought I'd see the day.
Jezzman Posted June 27, 2007 Author Posted June 27, 2007 Not that much.As a point of hilarity,I saw an Igor Biscan shirt at Glastonbury this year.Never thought I'd see the day. but is that down to the fact that LFC stinks when it comes to merchandising - shirts always being sold out online etc.... Or is it down to demands? I personally think it's because we're rubbish but when I say that I really hope G&H are going to be making moves on that front...
PrittStick Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Really depends upon our marketing department. You'll get the people who are huge fans of his wanting the Star Name on the back of their shirt but if you are talking about worldwide income based on one player, that requires a careful marketing strategy. I have heard that this is being implemented into the new owner's plans so perhaps one day we will actually see some comeback.
Big E Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Saw more Liverpool shirts than any other at Glastonbury, felt very pleased. Also heard ring of fire more than a few times, and the odd other LFC song too. Go on the muddy reds!
G Richards Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 I think Torres will be worth an extra £3M or so in terms of merchandising to the club. If he takes off and becomes a top striker (he's already very good, but there is possibly quite a bit more improvement to come if he kicks on) then the £3M could be much more, especially if he stays for 5 years or more. The main reason we should buy him is to improve us on the pitch. If we win more matches then the other stuff should rightly always remain secondary.

monkey puzzle Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Our mechandising is s***e though - I wanted to get a pair of our shorts for five a side the other day, there were none anywhere in town. Official shop looked at me as if I'd asked a ridiculous question. Hope JR and Bobby sort it out.
Boca Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 The answer as always is Twelvty million. You're welcome.
Mike Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 madrid made a fortune from beckham - likewise barca with ronaldhino
Mikey Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 Not as much as we would have done if we'd signed Rivaldo, shirt sales would have paid for him and his wages!
Guest Jude Posted June 27, 2007 Posted June 27, 2007 If you want to make money on the sale of shirts then you gotta sign Daniel Sh..tu from Watford.
fyds Posted June 28, 2007 Posted June 28, 2007 Beckham is a freak of marketing though - a household name known by those who know absolutely nothing about football, are not necessarily fans of the game or a club. Beckham is a 'Brand'. Torres will sell shirts among traditional and new Liverpool fans around the world, maybe a few LFC friends and so on in Spain - but will bring in the end little if any more than Carragher and Gerard shirts in the scheme of things.
