Andy @ Allerton Posted May 29, 2007 Author Posted May 29, 2007 Not sure how you can put Dean in there, never having seen him play. I've put him and Liddel there after many hours in pubs talking to fellas that used to go to the games years ago and whos fathers went before them. Their descriptions of both players were inspiring to say the least.

Snookie Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 I'm really surprised that when people are including Gascoigne, Henry & Ronaldinho that Gullit or Rijkaard havn't got a mention. Gascoigne is a could have been player but never was. Henry is a world class player whose never done it on the world stage and Ronaldinho could be a great but hasn't done anywhere near enough to justify inclusion. Obviously this is all a matter of opinion but I still think both Gullit and Rijkaard are far superior to any one of those three. Simon Kuper (the football writer) tells a great story about going to interview Gullit a couple of years after he'd retired. Gullit interrupted the interview to say he'd to go play in a five a side team but did Kuper want to come along. When they arrived Van Basten & Rijkaard were waiting to play in the game that was part of a Dutch Sunday league competition. So think about it. You wake up after a night out on the piss. You've to play in a five a side game. You turn up and the team facing you includes those three... Apparently they were rubbish but all three of them just enjoyed each other's company and the chance to play again.
Cobs Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 I'm really surprised that when people are including Gascoigne, Henry & Ronaldinho that Gullit or Rijkaard havn't got a mention. it's called an opinion
Snookie Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 it's called an opinion "Obviously this is all a matter of opinion but I still think both Gullit and Rijkaard are far superior to any one of those three." Thanks for repeating what I'd already said
Cobs Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 then you shouldn't be 'really surprised' people have different opinions to you then, should you?
Mike Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 Simon Kuper (the football writer) tells fyds uncle! the nazi hunter! shouldn't these threads be titled the 10 best players of recent memory anyway.
Snookie Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 then you shouldn't be 'really surprised' people have different opinions to you then, should you? Laughably pedantic
jimmylibel Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 fyds uncle! the nazi hunter! shouldn't these threads be titled the 10 best players of recent memory anyway. Or I want to pay homage to Dixie Dean without being outed as a bluesh*te?
Guest Anders Honoré Posted May 29, 2007 Posted May 29, 2007 I've put him and Liddel there after many hours in pubs talking to fellas that used to go to the games years ago and whos fathers went before them. Their descriptions of both players were inspiring to say the least. What's the point of posting one's opinion then? We might as well just re-post some poll from somewhere of what the general consensus is.
