I feel sorry for Chelsea FC.

All Liverpool have got going for them is over a hundred years of real history, many European and domestic cups, a real fanbase of passionate, intense and respected football fans, a football ground with real history and atmosphere, a Manager that shrewdly plays the transfer market and isn't arrogant, bigheaded or a muppet and a team that doesn't moan, dive, cheat and whine through 90 minutes of every game.

While Chelsea have got a silent, charmless arena filled with ne'erdowell fans who a few seasons ago used to support Manchester United. They've got endless rows of identical plastic flags to wave in silence, they have the same boring, tired songs about Sccaaaaarsars, they have a manager that redefines arrogance, paranoia and dementia, they have an owner that tried and suceeded in buying the league with no real idea about football nor decency, they have the interesting fact that they were bought for a quid not so long ago and are reviled by real football fans around the world as they haven't earned their success with even so much as a decent scouting system - preferring to just play 'Championship Manager' with real money. They also have players happy to spend 90 minutes diving, cheating, moaning and whining about every decision.

If money, arrogance, cheating, gamesmanship, big business and lack of respect is to win this evening then Chelsea will be the proud winners.

If it's love of football, hope, decency and honesty then Liverpool could be representing all those other clubs that would love to experience and travel to the pinnacle of domestic football.

Time will, as always, tell.

YNWA.

They're still ahead by one goal.

a fact that will take a lot of pressure off them!!

they only have to score 1 and we have to score 3 ..... I think we have to play for extra time

Isn't that just a bit smug?

I know a number of decent Chelsea fans who've followed their team through thick and thin. They followed Chelsea in the lower divsions, around the UEFA Cup circuit and have had season tickets for donkey's years.

The difference between the management and players of Chelsea and the true fans is enormous.

If Chelsea do go through tonight, of course I'll be gutted, but I'll shake their hand and hope they have a good time in Athens.

Much as I dislike Chelsea, that is just tripe. This notion that hordes of fans who attend matches used to support other teams is just fantasy land. And yes, I am sure you have met one who has switched.

If Chelsea go through tonight, I'll be their biggest fan for the rest of the season.

My boss has supported Chelsea for 35 years. Because he is from NI he gets 'you only started supporting them 5 years ago' all the time, but his first match was at Goodison and they lost 5-0! To bloody Everton! You have to be commiteed to go back after that!

tonight will show what sort of team we have and hwhat type of manager we have

going all out for the win against Chelsea with our profligate attack will allow Chelsea to play how they want ie on the counter

we just dont have the attacking talent of Man U

I'm curious to see who Rafa plays on the left, Pennant as some papers are saying ( telegraph) - that would be interesting

I like this idea, i think pennant can really get at paulo ferreria. He came on against pompey in that area so may be that wa an indication. Also gerrard and him can switch often.

:applause:

Although they've attracted plenty of apologists who are happy to avert their eyes to the dark side of Roman Kenyon, Jose and the tactics there's still the decent fans who kept their values. They didn't have any choice in whats happened to their club and anyway who is to say what compromises our supporters were, or still are, prepared to make if it gets them success?

If they win then all that's to be done is to congratulate them and move on. No point on dwelling on the actions of the mercenaries, everyone in football knows what they're about anyway.

I know three Chelsea fans who have been there since they were small kids. Their attitude is pretty much the same. They're made up that they're winning stuff, and love a lot of the quality players they've been able to bring in (Essian and Ukelele are particularly appreciated), but they do get embarrassed at Mourinho when he opens his mouth, and whenever I mention the diving and the whingeing they don't put up much of an argument.

They know exactly WHY they're winning stuff.
