Is it time for Robbie to be given a run?

and this isnt just because he scored a blinding goal for the reserves the other night but..

1. for only being on the pitch a few mins against villa, looked our most dangerous striker and was closest to scoring with a superb header in the last min

2. his goals to game ratio is excellent,

3. our other strikers look knackered/missing too many chances

we talk about pennant and how many crosses he has put into the box this season, with little end product from our strikers....well is it down to pennants poor deliverys or our strikers not taking up the correct positions??.....for me, theres been a number of occasions where pennant has played a great ball in which fowler (being the natural predator he is) would surely have got on the end of.

Oh yeah, and Arsenal are coming up...a team fowler generally has a good time playing against....Think its time that fowler starts.

I'd start him in a 4 or 5 Premiership games until the end of the season, rest Kuyt/Bellamy/Crouch etc for Europe.

well isnt this part of the problem...................bellamy,kuyt and crouch do more than enough work.....having 2 of the 3 as a partnership presents problems as it leaves us with little to no option in the box...as all 3 tend to do their best work outside it.

Over the past 2 months we have missed a shedload of chances......a standing still fowler is more likely to score than any other striker at the club..

let kuyt or bellamy or even crouch do all the work and let fowler be a menace by staying in and around the box.

looked our most dangerous striker

He's our only striker. It seems like we have 3 forwards and one shot striker. Rafa might favour an all purpose forward over a pure striker but even so the forward line this year doesn't have the right mixture between players that can create and those whose primary strength is finishing.

I think Robbie's on his way but I'd be happy to see him play more in the coming league matches. I'd like to see Crouch feature a bit more as well (once fit) to ensure he's sharp should we need him in Europe.

I'm not mad about the idea of using Fowler away from home but more game time for him and/or Crouch at Anfield would allow Kuyt to recharge his batteries. I thought Kuyt competed well against Utd and at home to Barca but his overall form has dipped when you compare it to his early season displays.

P.S. david.potter@powdersystems.com - that's a catchy user-name.

Fowler to come on with 20-30 mins to go for me. From the start the opposing defenders are fresh and all over him, and he can't find any space. He tires quickly and doesn't give us the athleticism we need up front to defend from the front.

He has goals in him though, so I'd bring him on with 20-30mins to go if I were Rafa.

I agree, I think Robbie, although past it is a far better option than I tihnk Rafa and a lot of other people on here might think.

He does have a fantastic goals / minute record this season.

but if Rafa doesnt want to use him thne he wont... so unlucky Robbie.

completely and utterly agree. what you have said here is bang on. Robbie is a danger to other teams but I feel Rafa has overlooked him to some extent. Maybe Fowler was brought in simply to raise the fans a bit. But I think it is time he started using Fowler more.

I think he is more of a goal threat than Kuyt. Maybe he should get a run for 60 minutes then bring Kuyt on. I think a few games on the bench might revitalize Kuyt. He's looked a little stale recently.

The exact opposite.. give Kuyt 60 mins to tired out defenses... Then when Robbie comes on the tired defenders might think they can relax, cause robbie is past it...

But robbie doesnt need fitness as much as others. He has fantastic positional awareness to make up for it.

Who else could have scored that goal in the ressies but Fowler?

With Garcia and Kewell out, the side is completely devoid of guile when God doesn't play. He should definitely be coming on for the last 30 minutes or so when we are having trouble breaking teams down or taking our chances.

We need someone like Fowler in the box at the moment, he gave the Villa defence more problems in 6 minutes than the rest of them did in the previous 94.

i said it earlier, but shall it again..

to all those stating that fowler should be given a run for the last 30mins.....well if you look at his record this season he has been far more effective when starting...

Most of Fowlers goals have come when he has played from the start....12 out of 13 goals i believe.
