D.Boon Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 (edited) I am a big fan of the Independent and as a rule i dont go in for the 'whole world is against LFC' line but this article is a load of old shoite. garbage Strange how the players and club seem to have moved on?? Nerik Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 Lot of assumptions in that article. Shameless ones too.
_00_deathscar Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 I think the press are gutted the incident wasn't 'all it was made out to be', as Bellamy's tongue-in-cheek celebration proves and are still desperately trying to convince people via articles that slate Bellamy for even daring to try such a celebration that the tabloid version was right; either so they still have something to talk about, or to keep trying to put us down.
Gerry Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 "I don't know if it was fate but we both just put everything that happened behind us and worked hard for the team," Riise said. Spoken like a man who has given up all hope of ever getting an apology. How he infers that from what Riise said.
Bailo Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 "That is the pragmatism at the heart of Rafael Benitez's decision to pick Bellamy after the alleged attack on Riise that left the Welshman's team-mates in disbelief. That is Benitez's right as a manager but he has to be clear that in doing so he made clear that the founding principle of his management is winning and not any other bothersome concerns like the basic standards of behaviour and decency."
_00_deathscar Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 How he infers that from what Riise said. Don't you know? All journalists and fans are experts in reading off vibes given by players through either their body movements, through lip reading, or even as far as mind reading. You better sign up for a class pronto!
The walters step over Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 Lot of assumptions in that article. Shameless ones too. Didn't you cringe even the tiniest bit though during Bellamy's interview after the match? No apology for dragging the clubs name through the mud or for disrupting the build up to the biggest game of the our season - He didn't feel that he owed us? Or the club? Obviously, it's brilliant that we won, but when others point out the downsides I don't think it's justified to jump on our high horse and shout about "media bias". For what it's worth, my own opinion is that Bellamy will be gone next year, not due to his temper, but more to do with the fact that he's not the clinical striker that we need.

Hello there honourablegeorge...
Redwire Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 Wallace was spouting the same sh*t in his match report the previous day: Even before Riise struck an unlikely winner, Bellamy had stunned all those who wonder just how far he is prepared to show his contempt for the consequences of his own misbehaviour. After heading the equaliser on the stroke of half-time, the striker celebrated by miming a golf swing. In the rapture of victory, his actions will be brushed aside but this was crass. It was lucrative too for those who spotted in the Racing Post yesterday morning some novelty odds offered by certain bookmakers of 100-1 if Bellamy scored and celebrated with a golf swing. For an industry that normally relies on the stupidity of punters, this was a rare example of the bookies being undone by underestimating just how daft some footballers really are. The morality of Benitez's decision to include Bellamy remains open to question although the result does not. http://sport.independent.co.uk/football/eu...icle2293495.ece
honourablegeorge Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 Heh. Least I'm not alone. Even if he hadn;t apologised, he coudl have at least said somethign along the lines of what Riise did - that it had been sorted out and put behind them. Mind you, I'm a lot happier having read that Rafa interview. From the sounds, the players were plenty professional after the event.

Jambo Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 I was kind of with him until this bit of sanctimnoius twaddle: "That is Benitez's right as a manager but he has to be clear that in doing so he made clear that the founding principle of his management is winning and not any other bothersome concerns like the basic standards of behaviour and decency" And it deteriorated from there...
Cunny Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 Most of the press reports I read (Times, Telegraph, Guardian) made light of bellamy's celebration.Wallace in The Indie was the only one I read who took this line. He also managed to shoehorn a reference to the Mancs balmy night in Barcelona into his match report and the srticle above - which might tell us something. However, this does not mean all the press are gutted we won - read Henry Winter's article in The Telegraph today.
L19red Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 He has...here it is criag bellamy = happy gilmour

What if he feels the whole thing has been exaggerated and he didn't do alot wrong. What if he has spent the whole week apologising to his team mates and the manager and has been told to make up for it on the pitch? Why does he need to apologise to a sky interviewer? If Rafa is happy, i am happy
Guy_Incognito Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 "Not only does he [Riise] have to play alongside him [bellers], he must congratulate him when he scores" I can just see Johnny thinking "I wish I didn't have to do this"... However, this does not mean all the press are gutted we won - read Henry Winter's article in The Telegraph today. This one?

Yep ~ first thing that struck me. I wonder, if he ever gets the opportunity to write about Galatasary, Istanbul or the Attaturk if he'll fail to mention us?

If Rafa is happy, i am happy Exactly. And the whole thing can have been exagerrated. We do not even know what the heck had actually happened. If Riise, the team and Rafa feel it sufficiently dealt with, that's it.
Dog Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 Who is Sam Wallace? Do I care? If I was Bellamy I would have told the SKY interviewer to f*** **f. They and their pundits are bloody useless and it seems that there are a multitude of tabloid reporters that hate LFC winning anything.Important thing here is that the incident is closed as far as the club and players are concerned. I guess it is unlikely that any one in the media will know the full truth of what happened for some time yet.Good to see the club going back to the closed door mentality of the glory years. I for one am fed up of the SKY and ITV adulation and gay love that takes place when they discuss Arsenal and Chelski. I so hope neither of them win anything major this year.
smithdown Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 This one? It seemed all the Kop were in town. The size of Liverpool's support was evident throughout, with their songs and banners ("Reds Go Catalan; Blues Go Matalan'') but the sheer weight of numbers was truly apparent only after the final whistle. As well as the 5,000-strong official contingent, every section of this huge ground had knots of dancing, red-shirted fans, soon sending a rousing rendition of You'll Never Walk Alone rolling around the terraces. The Nou Camp belonged to Liverpool last night.
Mevster Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 He has...here it is the press have it all wrong. it was clearly a cricket shot, going down the pitch to t*** a ball from a spin bowler into teh stands for six. i cant believe everyone has made such a basic error.

realtarragona Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 The article is a load of crap. If it was a serious incident, apart from the fact Bellamy probably wouldn't have played, he certainly wouldn't have celebrated like that with Riise and especially Benitez watching on. Why should he apologise for an incident that has blatantly been exaggerated just to satisfy the media? He shouldn't. The only reason they are still criticising him is because it's been made obvious they made half their stories up in the first place. Not to mention probably a bit annoyed that he's shoved their words down their throats with his goal and assist.
smicer07 Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 Watched the game again last night, Sky coverage, and when Bellamy was taken out by Zambrotta right on the touchline, they showed a replay of the obvious foul. Andy Gray then says "thankfully the referee doesn't see it". Hmm.
