Tom takes charge 1896 - Tom Watson was appointed as reds boss, doubling his salary to £300 a year from his time at Sunderland, whom he had led to three League titles and three FA Cup Semi-finals in four seasons. He went beyond the remit of Club Secretary at Anfield, involving himself in team selection, tactics and player recruitment, so becoming a Manager in all but name. He led the reds to two League titles and the Second Division championship and our first ever FA Cup Final, remaining in charge until his death in May 1915. Happy McBirthday 1891 - Legendary left-back Donald McKinlay was born in Newton, Cambuslang, near Glasgow. He signed from Newton Villa in January 1910, making 434 appearances before joining Prescot Cables in July 1929. He scored 34 times, including one struck spectacularly from ten yards inside his own half at West Ham United in January 1926! He skippered us to two League titles, and also played in our first FA Cup Final in 1914. Off on loan 2008 – Two young centre-backs left the club to go out on loan. Jack Hobbs joined Leicester City, turning out 49 times as they claimed the League One title before signing on permanently in April 2009. Meanwhile, Godwin Antwi only played seven games for Tranmere Rovers, later joining Hereford United for another loan spell before leaving the reds for good for Vejle Boldklub in Denmark in December 2009. Red bows 2012 – Full-back Ryan McLaughlin played his first reds game as we lost 2-1 to Roma in a friendly at the Fenway Park baseball stadium in Boston on our North American tour, with Charlie Adam on target. 1972 - Peter Cormack made his first appearance as we won 2-0 at Chester in a game played behind closed doors. Brian Hall and Steve Heighway struck the goals. Anfield departures 1958 - Outside-right Brian Jackson was sold to Port Vale for £1,700. He had struck eleven times in 133 reds games since his arrival in November 1951 from Leyton Orient for £6,500 plus forward Don Woan. 1934 – Forward Dave Wright was sold to Hull City for £1,000 after bagging 35 goals in exactly a century of reds games since signing from Sunderland in March 1930. 1998 - Reserves winger Nicky Rizzo left Anfield for Crystal Palace on a free transfer. He netted four times in 41 games for the Eagles, before joining Italian side Ternana two years later. 2016 – Welsh midfielder Joe Allen was sold to Stoke City for £13m after seven goals in 132 reds games since his £15m arrival from Swansea City in August 2012. On the same day, ex-reds midfielder Sammy Lee was appointed Assistant Manager of England, under Sam Allardyce. Signing on 1892 – Keeper Billy McOwen arrived from Darwen. He kept eleven clean sheets in 27 appearances, helping us to claim the Second Division title. He left the reds to sign as an amateur for Blackpool in July 1894, as well as returning to his dentistry career. 1986 - Barry Venison signed from Sunderland for £200,000. He netted three goals in 158 appearances for the reds, winning two League titles, an FA Cup and two FA Charity Shields in his time at Anfield. New stadium plans 2007 - New designs for the new stadium in Stanley Park were unveiled, coinciding with the submission of the official planning application to Liverpool City Council. This was to be a 60,000-seater stadium, with 18,000 in the Kop. However, this project has since been firmly shelved. Stevie honoured 2008 - Steven Gerrard was awarded an Honorary Fellowship from Liverpool John Moores University. The reds go broadband 2000 - It was announced that Granada Media and Liverpool FC had agreed to form a new joint venture company, Liverpool FC Broadband, to exploit our new-media and commercial rights, including delayed online coverage of Premiership matches. God the champion 1993 - Robbie Fowler helped England Under-18’s to claim the European Championships for the ninth and final time to date. Tottenham Hotspur’s Darren Caskey struck the only goal of the game against Turkey at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground, with the England side also including future stars such as Sol Campbell, Julian Joachim, Gary Neville and Paul Scholes. On the same day, future reds goalkeeping coach Cláudio Taffarel played as Brazil lost a World Cup qualifier 2-0 in Bolivia. Javier misses out 2004 - Future red Javier Mascherano played as Argentina lost the Copa América Final. The game in Lima ended 2-2, but Brazil won the penalty shoot-out 4-2. Red farewells 1900 - James Kelso committed suicide back in his native Scotland, aged just 29. He only played one senior reds game, in a 4-0 Lancashire League defeat of Bury at Anfield in September 1892. 1938 – Inside-forward Willie Michael died. He joined the reds from Heart Of Midlothian in January 1895, scoring five times in 23 reds games before returning to Tynecastle in May 1897. A new case for Jimmy 1991 - Ex-reds midfield dynamo Jimmy Case joined Third Division Bournemouth from Southampton on a free transfer. He was a virtual ever-present in his one season with the Cherries, before joining Halifax Town on a free transfer in May 1992. Young future reds on target 2002 - Fernando Torres bagged a brace as Spain Under-19’s reached the Final of the European Championships in Norway, courtesy of their 3-2 defeat of Slovakia in Drammen. On the same day, future reds Head of Opposition Analysis Chris Davies played for Wales Under-19’s as they lost 4-1 to Scotland in a friendly. 2003 – Daniel Agger converted a penalty for Denmark Under-20’s as they lost a shoot-out 5-4 to the USA in the NI Milk Cup third place play-off in Northern Ireland, after the match had ended 1-1. Partridge claims bronze 1999 - Richie Partridge featured as the Republic of Ireland Under-18’s beat Greece 1-0 in Sweden to claim third place in the European Championship Finals. 1996 - Michael Owen played in the same tournament as England drew 1-1 with Italy in a group game France, with Gérard Houllier taking charge of France, with Christian Damiano as they beat Portugal 1-0. On the move 1927 – Future reds outside-right Danny McRorie joined Stenhousemuir from Airdrieonians, having struck five times in eight League games for the Diamonds. 1996 - Future reds loanee keeper Paul Jones joined Stockport County from Wolverhampton Wanderers for £60,000. He appeared 66 times for County before following boss Dave Jones to Southampton for £900,000 a year later. 2011 – Future keeper Andy Lonergan joined Leeds United for the first time from Preston North End, playing 38 times. He became captain that season, moving on to Bolton Wanderers in July 2012. 2017 – Diogo Jota joined Wolverhampton Wanderers on loan from Club Atlético de Madrid, netting eighteen times in 46 games before signing on permanently in July 2018 for a reported €14m. 2018 – Ex-reds forward Jerome Sinclair joined Sunderland on loan from Watford, scoring twice in nineteen games for the Black Cats. 2021 - Fernando Torres was appointed Head Coach of Club Atlético de Madrid’s Under-19's side, remaining in that role until taking charge of their B team in June 2024. Also in international action 1925 - Forward Jimmy Walsh appeared for an England side that beat Australia 2-0 in an FA Tour game in Melbourne. 1976 - Future red Avi Cohen played in the Olympics for Israel as they lost 4-1 to Brazil in the Quarter-final in Toronto. 1986 – Future red Stig Inge Bjørnebye featured for Norway Under-16’s as they shared a goalless draw with Finland in a tournament game in Hungary. 2014 – Future red Marko Grujić played as Serbia Under-19’s beat Bulgaria 1-0 in a European Championship Finals group game in Hungary. 2021 – Alexis Mac Allister played for Argentina Under-23’s as they beat Egypt 1-0 in the Olympics in Japan, while fellow future red Wataru Endō appeared for the host nation in their 2-1 defeat of Mexico in Saitama.

The return of the king 2011 – Roy Hodgson left as Manager “by mutual consent”, with Kenny Dalglish resuming the hot seat on a caretaker basis. Hodgson had led us to just thirteen wins in 31 games, with the King restoring the club’s pride and ethos, although he was sacked in May 2012. Carra makes his debut 1997 - Jamie Carragher made his reds bow as a substitute for Rob Jones in our 2-1 defeat at Middlesbrough in a Coca-Cola Cup Fifth Round tie. Steve McManaman grabbed our consolation, while Stig Inge Bjørnebye was making his hundredth reds appearance. Departure of a striking sensation 1936 - South African striker Gordon Hodgson was sold to Aston Villa for £3,000. He had bagged a club record eighteen hat-tricks amongst his 241 goals in 377 games since signing from Transvaal in November 1925, although he was unable to claim a medal in his time at Anfield. He only stayed at Villa Park for a year before joining Leeds United. Tchau Phil 2018 – Brazilian midfielder Philippe Coutinho joined Barcelona for an initial, eye-watering £105m fee, comfortably a reds club record. He had signed from Internazionale in January 2013 for £8.5m, bagging 54 goals in 201 appearances. Fielding the kids 2017 – Our youngest ever starting eleven, aged on average 21 years and 296 days, was held to a goalless draw by Plymouth Argyle in an FA Cup Third Round tie at Anfield. We won the replay but fell at the next hurdle to Wolverhampton Wanderers. Happy birthdays 1953 - Hughie McAuley was born in Bootle. He moved to Melwood to become Reserve Team Manager just before the start of the 2002/03 season, working as a Coach at that level with Gary Ablett, before taking charge of the Under-18’s back at the Academy. He had previously been a regular in our reserves in the early 1970’s, before working with the Academy on a full-time basis since June 1990. He played a major role in our FA Youth Cup triumph in 1996 and helped to develop players including Jamie Carragher, Steven Gerrard and Michael Owen.. He left the club in the summer of 2009. 1947 - Former reserves forward Ted MacDougall was born in Inverness. He signed pro terms on his nineteenth birthday in 1966 but never made our first-team, moving on to York City for £5,000 in 1967. He enjoyed his greatest success with Norwich City, for whom he banged in 66 goals in 138 games. 1949 – Forward Steve Peplow was born in Liverpool. He signed on at Anfield as a professional on his seventeenth birthday and struck nineteen goals for the reserves in 1968/69, but only played three senior games, without finding the back of the net. He left for Swindon Town in June 1971 after a successful loan spell there. 1991 – Former Academy forward Marvin Pourié was born in Werne in Germany. He arrived from Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2007 at the age of sixteen, scoring twelve times in his first year with the Under-18’s but returned to Germany in January 2009, joining Schalke 04. 1999 – Polish keeper Kamil Grabara was born in Ruda Śląska. He arrived in the summer of 2016 from Ruch Chorzów, making it to the first-team bench once before moving on to F.C. København in July 2021. 1884 - Robert Blanthorne was born in Birkenhead. He only played twice for the first team, at the end of the 1906/07 season after signing from Birkenhead in the second half of the campaign. 1932 - Left-back Tom Wilkie died. He struck once in 64 reds appearances after signing from Heart Of Midlothian in January 1895, moving on to Portsmouth in 1899. 1869 - James Kelso was born in Cardross. He only played one senior reds game, in a 4-0 Lancashire League defeat of Bury at Anfield in September 1892, and sadly committed suicide aged just 29, back in his native Scotland. Stewart’s treble 1910 – Inside-right Jimmy Stewart scored a hat-trick as we thumped Chelsea 5-1 at Anfield. Jack Parkinson added a brace. Debutants galore 2016 – Winger Ryan Kent and left-back Joe Maguire played their only senior reds games, with centre-half Tiago Ilori, winger Sheyi Ojo and midfielder Kevin Stewart also debuting as a very inexperienced side drew 2-2 at League Two side Exeter City in the FA Cup Third Round as Christian Benteke skippered the side for the only time. We twice fell behind, but the only reds goals from forward Jerome Sinclair and left-back Brad Smith drew us level each time. Most recently 2021 – We won an FA Cup Third Round tie 4-1 behind closed doors at a COVID-struck Aston Villa. Sadio Mané bagged a brace with Gini Wijnaldum and Mohamed Salah both also on target. On the same day, ex-red Gary Mackay-Steven signed for Heart Of Midlothian, netting four times in eighteen appearances in his first campaign back in Scotland. Red departures 1955 – Forward Fred Geary died. He signed from Everton for £60 in May 1895, having top scored as they won the League in 1891 and won three England caps. He bagged fourteen goals in 45 reds games, helping us to claim the Second Division title in his first season. 2010 - Andrea Dossena joined SSC Napoli for €4.25m. He had struck twice in 31 reds games after signing from Udinese for £7m in July 2008. On the same day, centre-half Zak Whitbread left Millwall for Norwich City after four goals in 119 games for the Lions. 2020 – Young midfielder Isaac Christie-Davies joined Cercle Brugge Koninklijke Sportvereniging on loan, having played just one senior reds game. He netted on his debut in a friendly, but failed to make a senior appearance, moving on permanently to Barnsley in September 2020. Stumbling towards Cardiff 2003 - Two late Michael Tonge strikes gave Sheffield United the first leg advantage in our Worthington Cup Semi-final at Bramall Lane, after Neil Mellor’s first senior goal had opened the scoring. We, of course, turned things around in the second leg, to progress to our ninth League Cup Final. More managerial ins and outs 1997 - Kevin Keegan resigned as Manager of Newcastle United for the first time. He had been in charge for nearly five years, guiding them to the First Division title in his first full season in charge, and then to within a whisker of the Premiership in 1996. 2001 - Nigel Spackman was appointed First Division Barnsley’s boss. He was in charge for nine months before being sacked. 2009 - Nigel Clough took over as Manager of Derby County, as a replacement for Paul Jewell. He remained in charge until being sacked in September 2013. Bill’s century 1949 – Bill Jones played his hundredth reds game, putting through his own net as we drew an FA Cup third Round tie 2-2 at Nottingham Forest. We were two goals behind at half time, but Willie Fagan and Bob Paisley both struck late on, before the match headed into extra time. The Shrimpers again 1958 - Right-back John Molyneux struck his first reds goal as we beat Southend United 3-2 in an FA Cup Third Round replay, as well as putting through his own net. Centre-half Dick White scored his only reds goal, with Tony Rowley netting his 38th and last goal for the club. Sammy McCrory bagged the other goal for the Shrimpers. We made it to the Sixth Round that season before falling to Blackburn Rovers. The lights go out in Bristol 1994 - Our FA Cup Third Round match at Bristol City was called off during the second half, due to floodlight failure. We were eventually knocked out by the First Division side in an Anfield replay. Mixed fortunes against Rovers We have faced Blackburn Rovers three times on this day in history, winning twice in the FA Cup. 1898 - However, we lost the first meeting 2-1, when our strike came from a William Ball own goal in a First Division match at Ewood Park. Forward Bobby Colvin made the first of his three reds appearances in this game. 1983 - We won away from home by the same score in the Third Round, with David Hodgson and Ian Rush on target. Unfortunately, we only reached the Fifth Round, going out at home to Brighton & Hove Albion. 1991 - Ray Houghton, Ian Rush and Steve Staunton were on the scoresheet as we won a Third Round replay 3-0 at Anfield. Steve McMahon was sent off in this game, as Glenn Hysén had been in the drawn first meeting. We went as far as the Fifth Round again that year before being knocked out by Everton. Evans on target and off 1955 - We drew 1-1 at Lincoln City in an FA Cup Third Round tie, with goalscorer John Evans sent off. We won the replay four days later, after extra time, as we made it to the Fifth Round before being knocked out by Huddersfield Town at Anfield. No goals against Palace We have twice faced Crystal Palace in the FA Cup Third Round on this day in history, with both matches ending goalless. 1938 – We were held at Selhurst Park in our first ever meeting with the Eagles, making it as far as the Fifth Round when we were knocked out by Huddersfield Town. 1977 – We drew in L4 when Ray Clemence made his 400th appearance for the reds. We of course reached the Final that year. On our way to Wembley 1974 - We won an FA Cup Third Round replay 2-0 at Doncaster Rovers in a game that kicked off at 1:30pm on a Tuesday, due to the three-day working week, having only just survived the first game at Anfield. Steve Heighway and Peter Cormack netted as we set off towards our second Cup triumph. Named the best 2019 - Mohamed Salah was named as CAF African Footballer of the Year for the second consecutive time after a calendar year in which he had netted in the UEFA Champions League Final, amongst his 24 goals in 51 reds games. Naby Keïta and Sadio Mané were also named in the Team of the Year. 2024 - Dominik Szoboszlai was named Hungarian male Athlete of the Year for the second time, having won it three years earlier. Jermaine the record breaker 1999 - Jermaine Pennant signed for the Gunners from Notts County in a £2m deal, becoming the most expensive teenager in English football history, aged just sixteen. He only grabbed three goals for Arsenal, but they all came in his first League start as he made just 26 senior appearances, although he only played one other League game from the off. Other reds games 1972 – We lost 1-0 at Leicester City with Ally Brown heading in very early. 1966 – Ron Yeats scored a diving header, the only goal of our trip to Highbury against Arsenal. 1921 – We were held to a 1-1 draw by Manchester United in an FA Cup First Round tie at Anfield. We won the replay, but were knocked out in the next round by Newcastle United. Ex-red Tom Miller opened the scoring, but Harry Chambers nabbed our equaliser. Titi on target 1997 – Future red Titi Camara struck for Guinea as they lost a friendly 2-1 to Ivory Coast in Bouaké. A new contract 2007 - Young midfielder Danny Guthrie signed a new contract until June 2009. He played just seven senior reds games before being sold to Newcastle United for £2.25m in July 2008. A final cap 1995 - Rigobert Song won his eighth and final cap as a Tonnerre Yaoundé player as Cameroon were held to a goalless draw by Malawi in Douala. 2013 – Oussama Assaidi played for Morocco as they held Zambia to a goalless draw in a friendly in Johannesburg. 2017 – Future red Mohamed Salah featured in Egypt’s 1-0 friendly defeat of Tunisia in Cairo.

Left-back birthdays 1980 - John Arne Riise was born in Molde. He made 348 reds appearances, scoring 31 times, following his £4m arrival from AS Monaco in June 2001, but left for Roma for the same fee in June 2008. He helped us to win the European Cup, FA Cup, League Cup, two UEFA Super Cups and two FA Charity Shields in his time at Anfield. 1979 – Brazilian left-back Fábio Aurélio was born in São Carlos. He arrived on a Bosman free transfer in July 2006, netting four goals in 134 games, helping us to claim the FA Community Shield in his very first senior appearance. He was released for the second time in June 2012. Jocky on the off 1977 - Alan Hansen made his reds debut as we beat Derby County 1-0 at Anfield, with Terry McDermott on the scoresheet. This was Bob Paisley’s hundredth win as reds boss, which came in his 182nd game as Manager. 1949 - We also beat the Rams in a First Division fixture at home when Kevin Baron, Willie Fagan and Jimmy Payne all struck as we won 3-1, with John Morris bagging one of his seven goals against the reds. 1921 - Harry Beadles debuted as we won 1-0 at Chelsea courtesy of forward Billy Matthews’ fourth and last reds strike. 1904 - Sam Raybould bagged a brace as we won 2-0 at Lincoln City, with defender Tom Chorlton making his reds bow and centre-half Alex Raisbeck playing his 200th game for the club. Zico sets a record 1983 - Phil Neal made his 417th consecutive reds appearance in our 1-0 defeat at Manchester United, with Frank Stapleton on target. It was also his 365th consecutive League appearance – both still club records. He had to miss the next month after damaging a thigh in this game. 1998 - We also lost at Old Trafford, going down 2-0 thanks to goals from Dennis Irwin and Paul Scholes. Another record for St. Michael 2003 - Michael Owen scored his 21st goal in European competition, a new club record, to hand us a 1-1 draw at Slovenian side Olimpija Ljubljana in the opening game of our UEFA Cup campaign. Anton Zlogar’s opening goal was the 250th we conceded under the sole charge of Gérard Houllier. Owen has since been comprehensively overtaken by Steven Gerrard. Most recently 2023 – We beat West Ham United 3-1 at Anfield, with Mohamed Salah converting a penalty but Jarrod Bowen nodded in before the break. Darwin Núñez and Diogo Jota scored in the second half to secure victory. 2020 – Diogo Jota, Kostas Tsimikas and Rhys Williams all made their reds bows as we thumped Lincoln City 7-2 in a League Cup Third Round tie behind closed doors at the LNER Stadium. Xherdan Shaqiri netted his eighth and final reds goal with Takumi Minamino and Curtis Jones both bagging a brace. Marko Grujić scored his only goal for the club before Divock Origi scored as he captained the side for the first time, after Virgil can Dijk had left the pitch. 2016 – We trounced Hull City 5-1 at Anfield, with Adam Lallana opening the scoring. Ahmed El Mohamadi was sent off for handball with James Milner converting the resultant penalty. Sadio Mané and Philippe Coutinho both struck before Milner scored again from the spot after Daniel Sturridge was felled. 2011 – We beat Wolverhampton Wanderers 2-1 at Anfield. We went two goals ahead when Roger Johnson deflected in a Charlie Adam strike with Luis Suárez also on target, as Steven Fletcher pulled a goal back shortly after the break. 7,500 up 1994 – Ian Rush scored the 7,500th goal in the club’s history as we drew 1-1 at Newcastle United. Rob Lee had opened the scoring shortly after the break, with Philippe Albert dismissed for the home side late on. Ex-reds Peter Beardsley and Barry Venison both featured for the Geordies. Sent off again 2005 - We drew 2-2 at Birmingham City, with Neil Kilkenny being sent off for the home side on his debut, one of fifteen opposition players dismissed against the reds that season. Our goals came from Luis García and a Djibril Cissé penalty, with Stephen Warnock scoring an own goal and Walter Pandiani also on target. Off the mark 1892 – Forward John Miller netted on his reds bow as we thumped Bury 4-0 in a Lancashire League game at Anfield. Jonathan Cameron and Malcolm McVean also struck, while James Kelso played his only reds game. Kelso sadly committed suicide aged just 29, back in his native Scotland. 1958 – Outside-right Fred Morris scored his first reds goal as we drew 2-2 in a Second Division match at Brighton & Hove Albion, with Billy Liddell also on target. Other birthdays 1949 - Former forward, and coach under Graeme Souness, Phil Boersma was born in Kirkby. He signed professional terms in September 1968 and struck thirty times in 120 reds games, although he struggled to get picked in front of Kevin Keegan and John Toshack. He left the club to join Middlesbrough in December 1975 for £72,000. 1912 – Centre-forward Fred Howe was born in Bredbury in Cheshire. He joined on a free transfer from Hyde United in March 1935, netting 36 times in 94 outings before joining Manchester City in June 1938. He bagged three reds trebles, including notching four times in our record 6-0 derby victory at Anfield in September 1935. 1889 - Irish forward Billy Lacey was born in Enniscorthy, Wexford. He signed from Everton alongside centre-forward Tommy Gracie in a swap deal for £300 and winger Harold Uren in February 1912, going on to play 259 times for the reds, including the FA Cup Final in 1914. He helped us to two League titles in the 1920’s, netting 29 times before crossing the Mersey to join New Brighton in June 1924. 1875 - Centre-half Robert Neill was born in Govan, Glasgow. At five feet four inches he is probably our shortest ever central defender, scoring three times in 27 games after signing on loan from Hibernian in April 1895 and then permanently in May 1896. He left to join Rangers in April 1897. Debuting at Manchester City 1910 - Forward Sam Gilligan scored on his reds debut as we beat City 2-1 at their Hyde Road ground, with Jack Parkinson also on target. 1969 - Phil Boersma made his reds bow on his twentieth birthday in our 3-2 defeat at Maine Road, becoming our first ever League Cup substitute, coming on for goalscorer Alun Evans in this Third Round tie, who bagged an equaliser when George Heslop’s panicked clearance struck him on the chest and went in. Bobby Graham netted our other goal, while Neil Young scored the last of his four goals past us. Ian Bowyer and Mike Doyle also struck for the home side. Supersub back at Anfield 1985 - David Fairclough played for the visitors as Oldham Athletic lost a League Cup Second Round first leg tie 3-0 at Anfield, our hundredth match in the competition. Steve McMahon bagged a brace, with Ian Rush also on target. A rare defeat 1974 - Burnley won 1-0 at Anfield, inflicting one of just eleven home League defeats we suffered in the whole of the 1970’s. Full-back Ian Brennan stunned Ray Clemence from thirty yards with his first ever goal for the club. Signing on 1938 – Utility player Bill Jones signed from Hayfield St Matthews. He scored seventeen times in 277 games for us, with his appearances including the 1950 FA Cup Final when he was preferred to Bob Paisley. Bill won two significant medals in the 1940’s - first he was awarded a Military Medal for his part in the crossing of the Rhine in the Second World War, and then he won a League title medal in 1947 on his return to Anfield. He later scouted for the reds while his grandson Rob represented the club in defence on 243 occasions in the 1990’s. 2021 – Newcastle-born midfielder James McConnell signed pro terms with the reds. He had arrived as an Under-16 from Sunderland. He made nine senior appearances in 2023/24. Hooper steps in 1988 - Reserves keeper Mike Hooper replaced Bruce Grobbelaar, who had gone down with meningitis, as we won 3-1 at Southampton thanks to goals from John Aldridge, Peter Beardsley and Jan Mølby. Beating the Blues 1898 - Andrew McCowie bagged a brace, including a penalty, as we won 2-1 at Goodison Park. This was our first ever win across Stanley Park. On the same day, future red Javier Mascherano featured as Argentina Under-17’s beat Mali 2-1 after extra time to reach the Semi-finals of the World Championships Finals in Trinidad & Tobago. 2007 – Future reds centre-back Danny Wilson won his fourth and final cap for Scotland Under-17’s as they thumped Belarus 5-1 in a European Championships qualifier in Cumbernauld. 2022 – Lee Jonas and Isaac Mabaya both debuted for England Under-19’s, with Oakley Cannonier bagging his first two goals at this level as they thumped Georgia 6-0 in a European Championships qualifier in Denmark. Diogo Jota scored as Portugal won a UEFA Nations League group game 4-0 in the Czech Republic, while Sadio Mané netted from the spot for Senegal while playing for the first time since joining Bayern München in their 2-0 friendly defeat of Bolivia in France. Steven Caulker captained Sierra Leone to a 4-0 friendly defeat in South Africa, his first game for them as a Fatih Karagümrük player.
