  1. 'Tis True. Looks down on Waterloo, aspires towards Blundellsands.
  2. From Wiki: "Personal life Benteke is a Christian. He points up after scoring goals to thank God, and also prays frequently.[" Benteke and Sturridge: the holiest forward line in our history?!?
  3. "Case": Having a pop at Markovic is crap. He didnt pick his fee, he didnt suggest he play RWB, he didnt hook himself at half time. He clearly has talent. If you must have a scapegoat, there are plenty of other options. Seconded.
  4. From the BBC site: "Chief executive Ian Ayre is with Rodgers and his squad for the second leg of their pre-season tour in Brisbane, Australia, but is handling negotiations with Villa over the details of the deal." For some reason, this made me smile. I think it must be the "Don't worry, lads, Ian is still on the case" undertone to it.
  5. And a very nice guy also. He was instrumental in arranging for my Dad's ashes to be spread at Anfield, for which I will be eternally grateful. R.I.P.
  6. I wasn't in my usual seat for the Newcastle home game last season, but sat right at the front of the Paddock. The players could be heard very clearly. What became obvious throughout the game was that all of the shouting, directing, positioning and encouragement of the players was coming from Lucas, not Henderson (although the latter was the captain that day).
  7. Sublime back-heel goal in a midweek fixture away at QPR. Seem to recall that it was early in the season? Warm evening. And I went away thinking that we'd got the new Kenny...
  8. Not the first time you've said this. Don't agree with your first assertion. Ultimately they couldn't even enter the Ground which was allegedly theirs. And I don't really see how you can separate the "Internet terrorism" from the overall protest? The protests also disuaded potential buyers, who on at least one occasion were at Anfield and put off by the scenes there. Re: "Nobody wanted to organise a proper boycott either". This also is complete rubbish. The lack of a "proper boycott" indicates nothing more than an admission that a boycott at Anfield is almost doomed to failure, given the amount of people who would snap up any tickets going. We've had this debate a million times about tickets for away games. Boycott them and the day trippers will still snap them all up.
  9. Hodgson-esque. Poor. Very poor.
  10. "It's absolutely not their fault" yet "They've made some shockingly bad decisions"?
  11. Enjoyable day out. The crowd was not what you might call a "match day" crowd, although after Man Utd I'm not sure we have a "match crowd" anymore. Great to see Xabi, Luis Garcia, Suarez and even Torres. Torres must have feared the worst for his reception, as he ran on to the pitch, late, at exactly the same time as Luis Suarez, presumably to spare himself the booing that he thought he might get? Not forgetting Pepe Reina and Riise, who were both clearly made up to be back.
  12. Not you at all, mate. Witness the amount of times that they attribute a Liverpool player's quotes to The Rag only when, in truth, they are in all of the papers. I'm presuming that it's done in Salford?
  13. Whilst not the absolutely worst refereeing performance I've seen at Anfield, it's right up there. Jones on Henderson....Rooney......not booking the deliberate handball when the Manc player caught the ball thinking that he was off the pitch......pointing out all Fellain's previous fouls all over the park before deciding not to to book him AGAIN...the challenge on Gerrard that led to the stamp. Not excuses though. It was a poor, poor performance.
  14. Shaping up to be like Southampton Away last year, this game, for me, in that if we win, I'm really going to think that it* is on. * Alas, "It" this season being qualifying for the Champions League, not winning the Premier League.
  15. Anybody else read that momentarily as Hicks and Gillett players? Mentally scarred here...
  16. Xabi coming back sealed it for me, not to mention 'lil Luis. Not many tickets left for the Kop now, they reckon it will be a total sell-out. Not enamoured of John Terry playing though. They should do a mock video where they line all the players up - like back in school - and each takes a pick, but neither Gerrard nor Carragher chooses Suarez until the very end, despite him jumping up and down trying to be picked.
  17. "Why the f**k do we even bother taking throw-ins?"
  18. Or, according to the fellah who sits next to me in the Ground, only a couple of weeks ago: "F**k off Coutinho, you're just a two bob Brazilian...you're not worth a f*****g carrot". But to be fair, he hates everybody.
  19. Allen can have his `innocuous looking reducer`. aka a "Ronnie Whelan"?
  20. BBC Gossip page warning! Click on the story about Gerrard and Suarez - which it says came from the Daily Mail - and it takes you into the S*n.
  21. Annoying though, as the fear factor of even having him just sat on the bench would make the City fans nervous, the Immutable Law of the Ex and all that.
  22. Not that many years ago I was at a lecture where it was demonstrated how the media coverage of football was well in excess of their business size. The example given was that the total turnover of Manchester United, for example, was less than that of Marks and Spencer. The Baker St shop.
  23. Well, general common sense and precedent. The only reason that it wasn't already written in to the regulations that the reigning CL champions would take a CL place if they hadn't qualified, is that nobody in UEFA ever thought it would be an issue - the CL holders clearly taking priority. Only when it came to our friends across the Park did this become a problem, because there was no way on earth that they would concede their place to us. Can you imagine the fume... In conclusion: no way were we lucky; UEFA didn't look after us - they merely sought to preserve the prestige of their trophy, and then wrote in the relevant amendment to prevent it happening again.
  24. The Indy running with the Galtan from Benfica story too, although it all seems to stem from a French media outlet, RMC? http://www.independent.co.uk/sport/football/transfers/liverpool-transfer-news-reds-in-talks-to-sign-benfica-winger-nicolas-gaitan-as-summer-spending-threatens-to-exceed-100m-9628902.html
  25. Re: Man Utd - a deal in part created by adidas desperately requiring a marquee club to replace the loss of Liverpool FC?
