  1. Tony Barrett definitely said that of all the signings we made that summer, it was Markovic that the Club were most excited about.
  2. Definitely gave the appearance of one who likes to stay on his line for corners. We shall see.
  3. This. I know quite a few kids who were initially Reds but gradually became Blues because they could actually go the game with their (Blue) mates. Consigned to a life of misery, obviously, but they do actually get to see the games.
  4. This. Absolutely. Incredibly biased commentating.
  5. I just don't agree with how Xabi is used as a stick with which to beat Rafa. We signed him, had some great years and sold him for over three times what we paid for him. Nobody loves Xabi more than me, but there is a hint of revisionism about his career at Liverpool - if he had played like his last year here then Arsenal would definitely have bid for him the previous summer, no? Xabi got what he wanted and, because he has more savvy and nous, got his exit from Liverpool without burning bridges, unlike Torres.
  6. A surprisingly effective player, if you get what I mean. Tremendous work-rate and the odd flash of outrageous skill.
  7. Whelan had that ability to do his dirty work away from the eyes of the officials. Great player, very under-rated. Great ability to just nick the ball from the opposition too.
  8. Can't spell "brief"?!? And just who is this "Ian Ire" that he speaks of?
  9. Would agree if Dembele had been playing, he battered us at Anfield last season. Re Lallana - again, if he had that extra half-yard of pace when Firmino fed him in the second half we would have had a great chance on goal. Yesterday was largely good, though. A shame we couldn't take all three points.
  10. As I am sure has been said before, Geoff Twentyman's son runs a traditional barber's shop in Waterloo. Loads of memorabilia in there. Plus he obviously had many stories, which his son recounts: e.g. a lot of people at the club at the time - including Twentyman - were astonished when Bob Paisley was appointed to replace Shanks as he was felt to be too introverted, and were very fearful that this was the end for Liverpool. Another is that Liverpool were mulling over signing Ian Rush from Chester, but speeded everything up massively when Man Utd sent a scout to watch him too. Twentyman got to hear about this, because - although the Man U scout was disguised at the Chester game with a cloth cap pulled right down - he was a black lad, and therefore stood out in an early 1980s crowd at Chester. There is a book about Geoff Twentyman which is well worth a read.
  11. Everton in for Benteke? https://www.theguardian.com/football/2016/aug/07/liverpool-christian-benteke-no-offers#img-1
  12. Don't worry. He'll come back from this bigger and stronger than ever. The Power of Love. Edit: Only just looked at the Divock thread - ha!
  13. Agreed. Only responding to criticism of my original post, where I did say I enjoyed the game!
  14. Leo No.8: "Meredith I think you should only go to away games if you are that bothered by that kind of behaviour - it's the only place you'll find a level of 'pure' old school support that meets your standards." Mexican waves, Viking clapping and big red foam hands - not really being too picky saying that that has nothing to do with following Liverpool, is it? RP: "Proper superfan stuff that." Not at all. That was an "event" crowd yesterday, IMHO.
  15. Oops! I don't doubt it for a second. As I said, the crowd was an FSG dream. It just wasn't a football crowd.
  16. Sorry, Benzo-13 my last post was in reply to the two prior to yours. Agree with what you say. It dies grate when you hear the Dad of the family behind you saying "Joshua, we're all leaving on 85 minutes to beat the crowd, ok?" And off they trot, clasping their big red foam hands. Juergen would have felt really lonely by us after 80+ minutes.
  17. So, you enjoy that kind of stuff, then? Personally, I think it is about as far removed from the way our support was/ should be as it is possible to get, The game was sound.
  18. Mexican waves, Viking clapping and the general overall bell-endery of a lot our support aside, I really enjoyed that game, Personal favourite was the group of wools in front who changed the words from "We only drink whisky and bottles of brown" to bottles of rum!?? An FSG dream, our support yesterday.
  19. When they appointed Daniel Taylor?
  20. Not at all, mate. Quite the opposite in fact.
  21. There were. My cousin was offered a seat up in the Gods, having been sat in the front row of the Paddock. He's baled into the Kop.
  22. What are you lot on about? It's all Greco to me.
  23. Article from The Daily Express in March 2015 states that Kia Joorabchian was Coutinho's agent then. Apologies, can't put the link up. Obviously, The Express might have been wrong, or he could have jibbed Joorabchian and then gone back to him again...
  24. What I like about that Mane video is that he is clearly equally at ease with either foot.
