  9. Now this could get interesting........ Beeb Sheffield United chairman Kevin McCabe has told BBC Radio 5 Live that an independent tribunal has ruled against West Ham over the Carlos Tevez affair. McCabe said it would be "inappropriate" to discuss figures of compensation despite reports claiming the Hammers could be forced to pay £30m. West Ham were found guilty of breaching league regulations in the signing of Tevez and Javier Mascherano in 2006. The Hammers survived in the Premier League in 2007 at the Blades' expense. Rather than being docked points by the three-man Premier League arbitration panel, West Ham were fined £5.5m and went on to survive the drop on the final day, while United were relegated. Having failed in their attempt to have the original punishment overturned, the Yorkshire outfit sought monetary recognition. A West Ham spokesperson told BBC Radio 4:"We need to digest the full findings of the arbitration panel and will consult our lawyers on the next steps we might take before making any further comment." On the subject of compensation McCabe has previously said: "If you say that the Championship play-off game is worth £60m and Sheffield United's attendance last year was 31,000, with full hospitality boxes and restaurants and broadcasting income, you would say compensation is around £50m." More to follow.

  18. New deal to ease Agger’s concern Sep 16 2008 by Ian Doyle, Liverpool Daily Post LIVERPOOL are ready to reassure Daniel Agger his future remains at Anfield by offering the defender a new deal. Reports in Agger’s homeland have claimed the Denmark international is unhappy at the club and hinted he could buy out his contract next year. Having missed almost the whole of last season with a metatarsal problem, the 23-year-old has been restricted to just one appearance this campaign by the form of Jamie Carragher and Martin Skrtel and didn’t even make the bench for Saturday’s 2-1 win over Manchester United. But Rafael Benitez believes Agger remains integral to the club’s future, with the Anfield outfit preparing a new deal for the centre-back. Agger, who was signed for £5.8million from Brondby in 2006, will enter the final two years of his contract in the New Year. Under the terms of the landmark Webster agreement, the centre-back could then buy out his contract for a fee quoted at around £2.8m. “I know about the Webster ruling but I have no further comment,” Agger was quoted as saying. “I can confirm that I haven’t had an offer from the club to extend my contract yet.” However, Liverpool are prepared to extend the player’s association to the club, and chief executive Rick Parry said yesterday: “Daniel is very important to the future of the club.” With Sami Hyypia having been omitted Liverpool’s 25-man Champions League squad, Agger could make an appearance tonight in the opening group game against Marseille. “Agger is in the squad,” said Benitez. “The good problem I have is we have good centre-backs here and Agger is one of the best, so he could be playing against Marseille.” Post I can see him playing tonight
