Not sure about this at all. Klopp tried with him but then pretty much sidelined him. There was a brief flurry when he was unplayable in the autumn of his second season, but apart from that he's not been trusted by either of them. This one ain't on Slot. It's on the recruitment of him in the first place. But recruitment will never be perfect. Just a shame that two big purchases, keita and Nunez, have underwhelmed, but to have only two that have seriously underwhelmed is a pretty high strike rate in the favour of our recruitment overall compared to most

The guy just cannot be trusted to do what is right in situations that either experience or technique should have engrained within him the right thing to do. Any professional training day in day out should be able to score the open goal. Any forward training day in day out should have drawn the foul from Martinez so that he's red carded either chipping the ball over him or cutting inside and taking the clattering. The really gifted player would have squared to Salah, but at that speed to have the presence of mind to see and execute that would not have been the norm. The norm should have seen Martinez sent off. He may, from time to time, do something mercurial, but not frequently enough to be of consistent benefit. His most consistent attribute is helping to defend corners. His inconsistent ceiling is not high enough to accommodate his consistent floor. I'll be amazed if he's here next season. I'll also be amazed if Slot doesn't try and (over) rely on working with 4 forwards for 99% of the competitive minutes left in this season. All coaches, including klopp, grow more conservative and narrow the circle of trust as the season goes on. Elliott seems to have never been in it. Nunez will be out of it. Endo will play more minutes than both imo unless there are injuries

He could easily have brought on chiesa or Elliott along with Diaz and reshaped the forward line that way. We really need Gakpo back
