Worrying that less of a defeat is a positive from the game. At this rate we will get a draw at Old Trafford some time in 2017.

The only positive for me is that we had a defeat here last year and we got better. "The key for us is to initiate a game and create chances, that is something we need to be better at."

He had two years on his contract, if he had signed a five year deal for £100,000 a week I still think he would have wanted to go in the same way. There was really nothing that could have been done, his decision was made and he forced it on the pitch.

Liverpool have told Besiktas they want to keep midfielder Lucas Leiva after his recall on Monday night. Both Liverpool and the Brazilian midfielder reportedly agreed a season-long loan deal to the Turkish club after he was omitted from Brendan Rodgers' first two Premier League squads of the season. He was then recalled for Monday night's 0-0 draw with Arsenal after an injury to Jordan Henderson and Rodgers described him as his "best defensive midfield player". Now Besiktas president Fikret Orma has told a press conference: "Liverpool do not want him to go. "The transfer can only go ahead with their say so there is nothing we can do right now." The Daily Mirror reported on Wednesday morning that Lucas would re-join the first-team squad ahead of Saturday's home clash with West Ham.

Sky are reporting it, doesn't make it true but it fuels the flames. I don't see the point, unless there is movement somewhere to cover midfield.

Liverpool Football Club have beaten a host of European clubs to the signing of Norwegian youngster Edvard Sandvik Tagseth. The 14-year-old wonderkid - who is known as 'Eddi' - was a confirmed target of the likes of Manchester City, Manchester United, Ajax and Everton but despite holding talks with several Premier League clubs and in some cases even turning out for their youth sides so he could get a feel of what they could offer him, Liverpool are the ones who have secured a pre-contractual agreement with the youngster. Confirming the news, Tagseth said: "It feels good to finally be done with it and to decide on a club. "I felt it was best club for me. I enjoyed myself best there." The youngster will remain in Norway until his 16th birthday in January 2017 but will make monthly visits to the Liverpool Academy until then. Liverpool officials are currently in the process of sorting out the related paperwork for the midfielder. Meanwhile, Rafael Paez (20) has left Liverpool for Spanish outfit AD Alcorcon on a permanent transfer.

I remember when the backpass rule was first introduced. It's very easy for a referee to work out if a player intends to pass the ball back to the goalkeeper so it's hard to get it wrong. I hope this rule will be the same as it should be easy to work out if a player genuinely tried to reach the ball, but I can see a lot of situations where the referee won't be able to work it out. Seems an ambitious rule to me.

This is a story that won't go away: Asier Illarramendi is set to move to Liverpool after the Anfield club reportedly came up with an improved offer of £14.2million. The Daily Express reports that the bid is line with what Real are hoping to receive for the defensive midfielder, and a deal should be completed this week. Illarramendi arrived at the Bernebeu two years ago, but has failed to establish himself as a regular starter and completed the 90 minutes in La Liga just seven times last season. Should the Spaniard sign for Liverpool, he will be the club's ninth arrival of the summer, as Brendan Rodgers desperately tries to re-establish his team after a disappointing 2014-15 campaign.
