Their youth facilities are light years ahead of every other club in England, they spend big money on coaches and pay the kids and their families very well. They've scooped up most of the best talent in the north west over the last 10 years in the same way Chelsea did in London about 15 years ago. They're facing the same problems Chelsea had in keeping them and giving them enough opportunities though.

The question shouldn't be whether VVD is our best CB of all time, it should be whether he is the best of all time. He's the best I've ever seen.

Yeah there was obviously 2 key moments where our transfer policy let Klopp down massively, the one you mentioned and the Melo summer. I just don't think your characterisation of them being so awful that Klopp didn't trust their judgement is the correct assessment. They had an incredibly good record of funding the right players over the previous few years.

They haven't really had that many f*** ups though have they? We had the best transfer record I can remember a team having during Klopp's tenure. You could argue it was him elevating people's levels and they were definitely overly cautious at times but I don't think he could have major complaints in the grand scheme of things.

I think he'd built up so much power at that point there wasn't really any chance of them outvoting him. It seemed like that's why a load of the data and scouting lads left around the same time.

There's not really anyone around the u21s or u18s who would be an obvious slot in. Mabaya was rated a couple of years back but he's just back from injury. DJ Esdaille could be good but he only turned 17 yesterday. Did James McConnell do some time at RB at some point last season or did I imagine that? James Norris might be able to fill in at LB for a game

That's a silly way of doing it, should be like the NFL where the top ranked team plays the team with the worst record in the regular season (NFL)/ League round (Champions League). Far more of an incentive to finish top than ensuring you play the 15/16 or 17/18 team
