  2. I think if we were plagued by injuries to our defensive midfielders Agger could stand in in that position. Apart from his natural defensive qualities he's comfortable on the ball and well able to play it around the midfield. Not an ideal solution I know, but if the need were there he could do it a la Ledley King for England.

  5. We didn't lose. Let's get things into perspective. If we can qualify on Tuesday and then pick up three points against West Ham, I will be content with that as a start to the season. We only need to avoid dropping more than six points behind Chelsea over the first ten games to give ourselves a great chance of winning the Premiership. We get stronger as the season goes on so today is not so bad.

  10. Dirk Kuyt issued his latest come and get me plea to Newcastle last night: "I only want to play for the toon. I know so many other clubs want me, but my heart is set on Newcastle. They are a club close to my heart. I understand where the fans are coming from. We both understand failure and rejection. Mr Roeder told me that I am so ugly that girls run a mile from me and they are so useless that cups grow legs to get away from them. We can console each other. We both know disappointment, for shure". "I love the tradition of the club. They believe in continuity. Their colours are black and white and the manager assured me that that is because televisions were as well the last time they won a trophy. They have such strong links to the past and never forget where they came from. In fact under Mr. Shepherd they will probably get back there quite soon. I have spoken to the chairman and he was very impressive. He told me about the great history of the club and played me some recordings of radio broadcasts of their recent triumphs. I know I will need to work on my English a little as I got confused between "Wor Jackie lifts the cup for Newcastle" and "War has been declared" but Mr Shepherd told me not to worry as they happened around the same time and the recordings were very crackly". "I come from European football, so joining Newcastle would be a nice break from that for me. If I had to join a club like Liverpool that has won everything at least five times I would have to accept it alrthough my heart is with Newcastle. I am just hoping that Mr Shepherd will bid three times my market value and thus ensure that Feyenoord sell me only to the club of my dreams".
  11. http://www.cfc-net.co.uk/forum/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=18612 That's Chelsea's view off the game today. Possibly they might be talking about how to view the game today

  18. If we can have him back whether he wants it or not, it sounds as if we have leased him rather than loaned or sold.

The trouble is that we are now in the middle of a mad transfer market and not for the first time. Players all over the place are going for ridiculous fees and when the likes of Spurs and Portsmouth are shelling out or at least offering multi millions for average players then the knock on effect costs everyone dearly. Bellamy may well be proven to be an absolute steal at £6m, but also an absolute exception. I reckon Del Nido like many other foreign chairmen is simply looking in amazement at the fees sloshing around the English game and thinking he doesn't want to miss out when flogging a player to "Treasure Island"
  22. I predict they someone will do it this summer, the day after he has signed for them
  23. He's tiny though, that ball's as big as his lower leg.
