Where would you put him.

Last night on the BBC Maradona programme (which was feckin' great if you didn't see it), Stevie said he thought Ronaldinho was the best in the world at the moment.

So, where would you put Stevie on that list?

I think I'd have to have Ronaldinho and Henry ahead of him but beyond that I'm struggling. Rooney pushes him close so I'd probably plump for 3rd best in the world at the moment, maybe joint with Rooney.

I really believe our Captain is one of the top few in the world right now and certainly the best central midfielder.

I think its really hard to separate a number of players when you look at the world's best.

I think its fair to say that Ronaldinho stands out as the best in the world - you could make a case for that and justify it.

But then you could argue until you were blue in the face about separating Henry, Gerrard and Shevchenko all of whom I'd have equal second. Of course I'd favour Stevie, but I'm biased; I'm sure Arsenal and Milan supporters would disagree.

Then personally I'd have a larger third group with the likes of Kaka, Terry, Eto'o, Cech, Riquelme and Rooney in it just behind them.

Says a lot for Madrid's decline, that I wouldn't have any of their players in any of those groups...

i don't think you can compare the likes of henry and shevchenko with ronaldinho and gerrard. they play in different positions and are different types of operators. i think gerrard's the best midfielder in the world at the moment, but then that depends on whether or not you consider ronaldinho to be a midfielder or a forward.

I have my doubts over Riquelme when you are talking about the top tier of players. No doubt he is an excellent footballer but I dont think he fits into a team with Kaka, Rooney, Terry, Eto'o etc...

Henry, Shevchenko and Eto'o are the best strikers in the world, Henry has more influence on a game 'on his own' so for me he's the best.

Ronaldhino and Gerrard are the two best midfielders in the world, but play completely different games. Ronny just shades it at the moment but his all round game isn't a patch on Stevie's.

Players like Rooney, Terry, Ronaldo etc form a definite 2nd tier a level below.

We are lucky to have one of the world's best 2 or 3 footballers as our captain, lets not forget that.

For all-round influence Gerrard is up there with the best, certainly beats Frankie in that regard. The best players at the minute, the likes of Sheva, Ronaldinho, Messi etc.. are completely different players. Hard to compare. If I was asked to choose between a team of Gerrard's and a team of Ronaldinho's, I'd take Gerrard everytime. Fantasy stuff, I know.

And Lampard, f***ing bizarre isnt it? How some "Liverpool fans" seem to do everything possible to big Rooney, Lampard etc up yet dont even bother posting on threads like these. Rather weird infact.

I swear some have a pager that goes off if a Chelsea thread comes up so they can quickly log on and defend them.

It was probably Cobs.

Surprisingly I dont think it was, some whopper who doesnt post a lot I think saying how he's proven he's more effective than Gerrard or some s*** like that. Could of been a WUM.

Cobs would have called him 'Lamps'.

on that point, would people please stop referring to lampard as 'lampturd' or variations thereof? does my f***ing box in.

I'd put a few more between those and Stevie. Lampard for one.

is this the right room for an argument? ;-)

lampard isn't in the same bracket. you build your team around players like ronaldinho, henry and gerrard. lampard's a supplemental player, he's reactive to the elements of the game, he doesn't drive and shape games himself.

He's the centre of the Chelsea team. Also currently and independently ranked as the second best player in the world.

you are not seriously trying to argue that Lampard is a better all round player than Gerrard?
