Mikael Akerfeldt Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Got to be Newcastle or Chelsea. No other club is stupid enough (Newcastle/Shepherd) or slimy and conniving enough (Chelsea/Kenyon) to even think they would have a chance of signing Carra.
diggy Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 British club you say? Has to be Swansea. They have just lifted the League trophy thingy and Lee Trundle told them he could swing Carra Swansea's way with his love of practical jokes and flag/t-shirt collection. Swansea - the revolution starts now!
Kvarme Ate My Food Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Steven Gerrard would have been hilarious two summers ago. I take nothing for granted. absolutely and if it is Chelsea, he will at least give it some thought
Ombudsam Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 I hope we quoted a price. If we quoted something like £25mill or something stupid and the club bid that you'd have to consider it. Not that I want him sold.
Phil236849 Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 stupid enough...bill kenwright?! barcodes is my vote too though
Guest Scot Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Could be any team and any team that makes him a good offer will get listened to. Have we not learned yet?
crisps Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 (edited) The usual suspects, Newcastle, Chelsea or Spurs most money on Newcastle Edited April 6, 2006 by mikeyj
AE Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Somebody obviously had their dates wrong and thought Monday was the 1st I wonder what Rick said once he had finished laughing down the phone at them?
Falconhoof Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Could be any team and any team that makes him a good offer will get listened to. Have we not learned yet? Yeah, he'll have sleepless nights over an offer from any club You could make a case for an offer from Real Madrid, Barcelona, or even Chelsea or Arsenal but 'any team' ?
Guest Scot Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Yeah, he'll have sleepless nights over an offer from any club You could make a case for an offer from Real Madrid, Barcelona, or even Chelsea or Arsenal but 'any team' ? Where's Owen? Any club that makes him a decent offer will get a hearing. That offer will then be relayed to Rick Parry so Rick can 'show him more love'. If the club making the offer might perhaps be able to match on-the-pitch ambitions it will get considered seriously.
floyd Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Got too be Chelsea, what with the semi-final coming up, and knowing the way that club works. Has too be. Newcastle only go for trophy signings

You said 'any club' Charlton ? Sunderland ? Leyton Orient ?
Bootle Buck Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Let's just hope Parry gives Carra a better contract if someone is after him. He deserves to be one of our best earners and gives 110% every game. Wouldn't put it past Slur Alex to inquire although the barcodes would be in more need.
Kite Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 It's all Carra's fault for not spreading his goals out consistently over a number of games.Rubbish, his goal scoring rate has been perfectly consistent for quite a few seasons now.

Wouldn't put it past Slur Alex to inquire although the barcodes would be in more need. He only signed a new deal last summer. We shouldn't give him an improved deal just because someone has enquired about him! Otherwise players will be getting their mates to call the club all the bloody time pretending to be Peter Kenyon!
IgPig Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 I don't mean to be negative, but these lads are professionals. You can bet your life that if Carra's next contract offer was less than he wanted then he'd be off. They're interested in the club they play for and they're interested in success, but they're interested in themselves first and foremost. I don't say it's necessarily a fault. I love where I work, have a great deal of affection for the organisation and its history but if I get handed a pay cut next summer I'm out of it. Footballers are no different, in fact it's normal human nature amplified. I think you're right in that if the club offered him a rubbish contract he'd consider leaving, but then I don't think people would resent Carra too much for that. I certainly wouldn't - I'd be disappointed with the club. Provided the club want him (and continue to demonstrate that) he'll not leave I don't think. Maybe its because he doesn't have the natural ability of Gerrard - I think he appreciates where he is more.
Eiler99 Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 He only signed a new deal last summer. We shouldn't give him an improved deal just because someone has enquired about him! Otherwise players will be getting their mates to call the club all the bloody time pretending to be Peter Kenyon! "Mjallo. This is Peter Kenyon. I'll give you £5m for Traore". "Hey! You're not Peter Kenyon!" "Did I say £5m? I meant £50m!" "Oh, hello Peter!"
G Richards Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 I would guess Newcastle. They desperately need a top centre back and they desperately need to keep hold of Owen. And if the barcodes are to recruit a decent manager, he would obviously want a top defender and a guarantee of Owen staying on. It might be a bit of a conspiracy, but this all smells of Martin O'Neill putting in his requests behind the scenes. If the barcodes can't do anything on Owen and they fail to sign a top centre back, O'Neill will likely sit tight until a less poisoned chalice comes his way.

Whereas Scot is (I reckon) being hyper-realist, I agree with hamstrung's thinking that as long as the club stick by him he's more than happy to stay and stick by them.
Owen1978 Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 Its defo got to be Chelsea, there the only team who go for the other top teams (manyoo, ars & us) first team players. i.e HenryVieraColeGerrard Newcastle might think they are big but havent really made approaches towards players in the top 4 teams in the past. Totteham sign young midfielders & strikers only.

You are either a realist or not. There are no gradations of realism.
Kvarme Ate My Food Posted April 6, 2006 Posted April 6, 2006 very, very few of us know Carra (I don't) some people are just projecting a personality and set of values onto him, exactly as they did with Gerrard a few years ago. And Gerrard grew up as a red. I'm not doubting Carragher's professionalism and commitment, but of course he would think about any decent offer. Who wouldn't?
